Found in change yesterday-wow
This nickel was found in change yesterday(found today but received yesterday). Color actual. Coin has quite a lot of surface damage, but the neat thing is I believe it to have suffered counting wheel damage. At least, I have had buffalo nickels gennied at pcgs for the same damage and was called counting wheel damage. Just interesting to get a 73 year old coin in change. Whoo Whoo.

X-mas gift in September
Good finds
I love it when something like that happens. I always check my change.
Thanks for sharing!
I've collected three complete date and mint mark sets of Jefferson nickels 1938-64 from pocket change and roll searching. I'm working on number four. Obviously it can be done. Just takes time. Yes, it's mostly DRECK but it's fun. Isn't that what it's all about? DRECK isn't so bad for us little people.
I actually picked up a lot of DRECK on Thursday at the Long Beach show. I like my DRECK. Thank God for the DRECK dealers. We need more DRECK dealers and DRECK collectors.
P.S. DRECK can be very expensive. AGHHAAAA!!!!
Hoard the keys.
still have my first war nickel change find a 1943d from a few years ago
1997-present
Nice find!
Sweet!

I searched a box of bank wrapped nickels late last week and found an incredible 8 war nickels, including the elusive '43-D. They are still out there and I like buying silver at face.
Nice find.... I enjoy finding war nickels... found only one this year though.... I am talking in change, have not roll searched nickels. Cheers, RickO
It's been decades since I've seen one of those in change, and I've been checking.
Congratulations. I know it not worth much in $ but the thrill of the find is the real value .
Wow, a silver nickel !!!
Yes, my kind of collector...

There's something cool about a well circulated golden-greenish-gray-brown war nickel that only a coin nerd could appreciate.
I am rather envious.
I have never found a 1939-D nor 1950-D in circulation.
All of the others...yes, but those 2 pieces of DRECK.......have eluded me.
Same here never a 1950-D but found the rest.
I do find it easer for me to just buy the sets from the B/M's.
Hoard the keys.

Before I actually started buying "real coins" I completed a full set (including the 1950-D) from circulation over about 18 months and 105,000+ coins. During that time, I was reading diligently here and elsewhere to determine my next area of collecting interest. It kept me occupied in the hobby and was an incredible learning opportunity to look at a ton of coins to evaluate wear, strike, and general quality before starting to truly putting anything at risk in buying.
When I search a box of nickels I might usually find 1 or 2 War Nickels per box, but to get one in change is rare, and yours seems to be in nice shape (many are corroded or have counting machine damage).
I can remember getting bags ( $200 ) of nickels ( circa 1962-3 ) from the bank and looking through them. The War Nickels that I did not need just went back to the bank.
Hey, why not - silver was cheap back then and the coins were only around 20 years old at the time. (Imagine getting a nickel dated 1999 in change today - not even worth noticing).
I picked up 20 rolls of nickels from the bank today and out of first 4 rolls I got 3 50's and 1 1942(not silver). But still, another 40's coin. I like this. I also picked up 20 rolls of halves and got zilch(except an original bank roll of 2006 Halves), keeping them and returning the rest for another 20 rolls from a large bank. I probably shouldn't go to same bank, but what do I know? lol

The silver sniffer finds those grey green war nickels very easily. I CRH regularly, in the last week I have found 9 war nickels, two .800 silver Canadian 10c and today a 1934-S Merc. Eight of the war nickels came from one box.
Where do you get boxes of circulated nickels? My bank doesn't have them. Maybe too small. They looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for 10 rolls of half dollars and 10 rolls of nickels, but gathered them up. Said they wouldn't have problems with the nickels but the half dollars where different, but then a lady said, "Oh yes, we have them."

Either some kid got into their father's coin collection or someone's collection got burglarized. There's no way that coin has been in continuous circulation for the last 73 years.

Cool old war find. Congrats!
