I am a Legion member, and I really like the silver dollar design. When I was in Cherbourg, France, I went down to the old section by the docks. There were some pubs there and still living (at that time) members of the French Resistance. They were most friendly to American Sailors....very different than Paris. I will get one of those silver dollars for sure. Cheers, RickO
I really like the silver dollar coin and design. Might be a bit hard to replicate when engraved but the picture has a lot of good design and detail.
The $5 gold I think will look great especially like the reverse.
What can I say about the half dollar? It is 91.67% copper, and 8.33% nickel as usual, and I wish they would make at least the proofs in silver. You need a magnifying glass to even tell if it has anything to do with the American Legion, as the emblem is so small. When I use a magnifying glass on the picture I don't think it even says American Legion, just US in a tiny star. Why didn't this design have something about Women Veterans, Operation Comfort Warriors, or Legion Riders to emphasize the other important parts of the American Legion mission?
Oh well. Since I collect modern commemoratives I will get one, but I predict the uncirculated half dollar will sell even less than the breast cancer clad coin which currently the new low mintage in the series at around 9,869. If Congress wants to save some money they should just stop making the uncirculated half dollar commemoratives.

Speaking of eagles and feathers, what was the grade of that 1907 Indian you posted on the scout thread? The feather details are stunning especially on the upper wing tip that is usually really worn. I really like it.
I like them, I do feel that all commemorative half dollars should be struck in silver.
IIRC there are two, the 1982 Washington, and the 1993 Madison.

I think that the dollar design might be attractive, the $5 gold somewhat attractive. I will reserve the right not to comment on the half dollar design, other than to agree with Goldminers that it could be a contender for the low mintage crown.
Q: Are You Printing Money? Bernanke: Not Literally
My Dad and his buddies started a VFW chapter after WW2 and named it after the one guy in their outfit killed during the war. As fate would have it Dad was the last surviving member, so he decommissioned the Post and joined an American Legion chapter in the neighborhood.
Would have been nice if the VFW had been recognized also. There were a lot of good soldiers in both of them.

On the half dollar I like the way that the Pledge of Allegiance continues onto the reverse and become the name of the country, but I don't get putting two children on it. I would rather have seen a Doughboy returning home to his family or the like.

Will add one uncirculated and one proof half dollar to my set. At first glance you come away unimpressed but after looking at it again, the flag flapping in the breeze on the reverse kinda grows on you.

I like collecting the commemoratives, but the markups are just too high to buy them straight from the mint. I just look for fillers when i go by shops.

I like the second one and the one with 2 draped flags.
I also like the design and pairing of the last two. (not sure if the kids will transfer well to a coin though)

Mom passed 2 years too early
She was a member of the Women's American Legion Auxiliary and served in every elected position...sometimes twice.
She would have loved the 2nd and 3rd choice. I don't normally buy these types of releases, but I may have to get one or two in her honor.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
As a member of the American Legion I'll say this.....wait I better not or I'll get banned.

Bought 2 raws early in my collecting period; here is the PGCS results; of course I though the particular one should've been MS64
The subject matter doesn't interest me so I will not be purchasing any of these.

I knew it would happen.
Sort of interesting is this from the mint? I am sure I will buy a few when they come out.

Pass. Not a fan of any of any of them. The half is terrible.

US mint severely needs to hire some folks from the Canadian and or Perth mint. Our new coin designs remain disappointing to put it mildly.

@Kudbegud Thank you for the update.
I am getting one (or several)... just because I know a few people who are not coin collectors who will enjoy them.
