I have never seen anything to suggest that John has been anything other than completely forthright and transparent - certainly nothing clandestine.

That’s just what he wants you to think. ;)

Sooo....is John one of those transparent fish or frogs....? Never knew....just never knew.

Maybe he means a "deep state of ignorance?"

You know what I mean. A state within a state. A group that quietly works the system to their advantage, and do not like disruptors. CAC was actually a disruptor a decade ago. Could there be two deep states here? We've certainly seen lines drawn. >:)

Thanks for clarifying I was a little confused before.

    Me neither at this point.

Maybe we will hear some fun new coin conspiracy theories. :D This forum needs an active thread with a little entertainment right about now.

YES! If the COT is still functioning, it has just gone deeper. What's a Friday night and weekend without a good conspiracy thread?

PCGS was a disruptor in 1986, CAC 20 years later (and there are some common denominators there).

IMO, the deep state is responsible for the current drop in interest and prices of coins. What's going to be the next disruptor?

Perhaps the NDS (Numismatic Deep State) controls the Circle of Trust™ without the Circle even knowing it.

There are definitely people in the coin business who exert a surprising amount of influence, both publicly and behind the scenes, but I wouldn't characterize the coin business in conspiratorial tones - it's mostly zero-sum thinkers just trying to hang onto what they've got.

Instead of a special counsel you get a special grader to investigate NGC collusion.

I'm obviously a coinsheep because I don't know what the code letters are for the NDS™

I'm really more interested in what is going to disrupt the state of coinflation and other factors that are depressing the hobby. Slabs did it to the ONDS™, CAC did it to SNDS™, so who or what is going to be next to take us to the next iteration of bettering our hobby?

I had always figured the doctoring community was part of the NDS. This is why they can do what they do and be untouchables.

  • DMWJRDMWJR Posts: 6,042 ✭✭✭✭✭

@Zoins coin doctors are a necessary part of the NDS™. What if all coins were undoctored and grades were obvious?

That's not the deep state. It's just greed - one of the cornerstones of human nature.

The more I think about it, the more it occurs to me that we probably ought to call it the Numismatic Shallow State™.

If you don't know about the secret handshake and the knowing wink as you pass another member of the NDS, then I'm afraid you are outside of the ICOT. If you were a member, you'd be invited to the annual Bilderberg meeting to partake in consuming Gurkha Black Dragons and Macallan while discussing sniffer and the next steps that will be taken to maintain control of the future NDS. this years highlight will be voting in two open seats for control of the Chinese and European markets. Attendance requires a dinner jacket and swimwear. Please do attend.
