I just looked on Amazon to look for a #4 ( 1998-2008 ) and there are none available as a single. A set of 5 is offered at $105 or so. This is crazy for something given out free with a Big Mac purchase. I just wish I could cash in my stash of 16 assorted Tokens. Maybe one day I'll find a #4.

My family is having a discussion at the moment. Are you saying that very few are still in the original unopened pack or that very few remain in the pack because most packs have been opened?

Despite how we feel about Big Macs here,(almost every collector here see them as trash food) , there are thousands that love them, and if you give those people a token worth another FREE Big Mac, they're going to jump on the chance to get another one. To redeem them, I think they do get opened. As collectors, we see a value of an unopened, untouched, pristine token. I would have opened it immediately when I was a kid. Do you know how many kids/teenagers frequent McDonalds? So I guess I'm saying most of these have been opened.

We didn't understand your English usage. That is what I thought you posted. I disagree with your opinion 100%.

Perhaps you should do a little research. At this moment in time, I'll guarantee that the vast majority have not been opened! As time goes by, I will agree with you. Consider me a nut as words mean something.

I've always considered you a nut...............a tough nut to crack even more difficult than some slabs. I say this with total respect for you.

Your comments evoke rebuttal. That's what is good for the Hobby.

But, some of your posts make me think so much that I get a headache!

I got to get some aspirin...........................

I'm going to hit the Jersey shore after labor day. I wonder if I will find any in the sand? Peace Roy

Are these Tokens coming back to McD's in exchange for free Big Macs? Anyone keeping tabs at all?

P.S. I had a Big Mac on Woodward Ave in Royal Oak MI near 13 Mile Rd ( near Beaumont Hospital) and it was absolutely Excellent. Apparently if there's enough traffic to keep the food stocks rotating , the Food is top rate. Stale Buns just don't make for good Burgers.

They are good, to me, IF 1) none of that icky sauce 2) there is a discount. The BM is the worst value. Compare to a McDouble. Same 2 patties, same 1 slice of cheese. But almost double the cost for what.... the center bun, a pinch of lettuce and, to me and lots of other people, that nasty sauce. So get it fresh every time, only with a discount, by saying NO SAUCE.

Yes mam, I'm still in need of up to 3 - #4 Big Mac " Brass Dabloons" . ;-)

I've rediscovered Ebay and maybe one day I'll make a move on there to get what I'd like to get. I'm in no hurry and just refuse to be scalped in my quest for a really insignificant item - like a Freebie Mac Coin.

Just recently I saw a Box of 100 Mac Coins for around $1400 , or thereabouts. No mention of the mix even. I could see if someone bit and then there'd be NO #4's in there at all. Even crazier than the partial Box of Mac Coins was an offering of an EMPTY Big Mac Token Box. Just an EMPTY BOX - for a BIN of $80 ! Now..... that is crazy.

    @FullStrike
OK...I'll have it sent to me; think only 1 though....

I COULDN'T believe you managed to collect 4 would be complete sets and All missing the 1998-2008 :/
Most of those 4 probably ended overseas :#
I will PM you when I get it.

Man these are nice looking coins! I think I am going to send mine in to PCGS first and see if they will do them?

  • RogerBRogerB Posts: 8,852 ✭✭✭✭✭

"90s Abstract art" ? That is funny!

The tokens have no artistic value and the stuff is certainly not abstract. I do not understand spending $25 to slab a $3.00 Good-for value token.

Call CS first and save postage both ways if PCGS won't slab them......or.......just send then ATS.

I figure in a year or so you'll be able to pick up Slabbed Mac Tokens for $5. That's why I'm trying to avoid buying Raw at $10 or so. After Dec 31 those things are nothing but a novelty item. Worth about as much as a 10 year old Clad Proof Set. LOL !

Shoot. I just purchased this token for someone, as they don't have internet, and are interested in this series. They have all others through Big Mac purchases. I paid $25 for token.

Thought I'd spend ebay bucks on a complete set for myself- once bucks dispersed. Sure the price will come down on these once the craze fades. At least, that is my hope.

  • FullStrikeFullStrike Posts: 4,353 ✭✭✭

Anyone still interested in these things? I finally got a #4 , thanks to a very helpful " Paradise found ". So I have a complete set now and a bunch of extras. I might just start redeeming my extras for Big Macs. They're good until Dec 31 and then they go to zero value.

Too bad I can't flip tnem for BK Whoppers. Extra Onions, extra Mayo, and hold the Ketchup makes for the best Burger on Earth !

I'm gonna put my set of five in a small frame, under glass, still in their original cellophane packaging. Don't know where I'll display em but it is a novelty sign of the times. Any stats on was this promo a success? Maybe BK or others will try a similar stunt. Peace Roy

I have a couple of loose ones in my car. I got to use them before the end of the year when they expire.

Definitely go for the Saint. Think of all the Big Macs, Whoppers, steak, coins, etc you can buy once you cash in your gold.

I wouldn’t be surprised if unused big Mac tokens are found next year at some garage sales.

They expire? Dang, I thought they would be an inflation hedge! Welcome back, PerryHall.

Not sure about the value, but I suspect in the future there will be a higher surplus of these tokens then the buyers forced to eat Big Mac's to buy them.

In all honesty I am not sure which way it will go long term.

I don't ever see these being big ticket items, but I'll bet the vast majority were/will be turned in for free Big Macs. Maybe it was only some of us fanatics who thought them worthy of collecting. They might eventually be a neat and somewhat scarce (relative to their mintage) bit of exonumia.

The real question is, will their collector value exceed the cost of the forfeited Big Mac. Although, for most of us who scrambled to get these from the source, that is probably not much of a concern as I am still pretty much overdosed on Big Macs.

I have a set. I had extras and sold them for a nominal amount, I think 6 bucks each. I actually redeemed one that was open. :D I'll keep the set however, I think they are cool. :)
