Dalton,Georgia show report.

goldengolden Posts: 10,159 ✭✭✭✭✭

I got up early this morning to drive to the BRNA ( Blue Ridge Numismatic Association ) show in Dalton. When I started the car there was a warning light ( low tire pressure ) on the dash. i went to a gas station about 2 miles away and took care of that problem. So, after a short delay I was on the way. After a couple of hours I stopped at Hardee's for breakfast.

I arrived at the show at 10:45. I soon saw a 1797 Large Cent in PCGS 35. It was a fairly nice coin except that it was ever so slightly struck off center. It made the rim on one side large and almost non-existent on the other side. I decided to pass.

I took a look at a 1875 CC Trade Dollar in PCGS 58. The obverse had very nice toning The reverse was white ,but very dull and lifeless. It was priced at $1200. I passed. If the reverse had looked anything like the obverse it would have been a keeper.

90% Silver was selling for 11x, 1 Oz bars were priced at $16 and 10 Oz bars were selling for $155.

There was money changing hands at almost every table that I saw in the first hour.

I saw a women showing a coin to a dealer for which she had paid $120. She had thought that it was a bargain because it was a $300 coin . She found out that it was counterfeit.

I was not looking for a Morgan dollar but saw one that I thought was really very nice. It was an 1882 CC in PCGS 65. It looked very Pl but was not labeled as such. I had to fight very hard not to pull the trigger.

I said hello to Yorkshireman, Liz at Teaparty and several paper money dealers.

The concession stand had a Pot Roast lunch with Red Potatoes, Green Beans, Roll and Soda for $8.50! A lot of the dealers were getting that for lunch. That was a lot different from PHL last week where they were charging $5.50 for a hot dog or soda.
After a couple of hours I had struck out and headed for home. I still had a very nice day.

Nice report and it sounded like you had a good time. We don't always find something and sometimes we strike out, but for me looking at coins is always a great time, even if I don't buy one.

Sounds like a nice show. I live in Georgia and wanted to go to it, but my work schedule changed around at the last minute so I couldn’t make it. Thanks for a nice recap

Nice report...I often left shows without buying....Still had a lot of fun and usually learned something - so I left with free knowledge anyway ;) . Interesting about the silver bullion action... did you notice any gold bullion movement?? And I think you should have grabbed that '82 CC....I was looking at mine yesterday and was thinking I might pick up some more CC's. Cheers, RickO

Curious, how many tables were there?

  • goldengolden Posts: 10,159 ✭✭✭✭✭

It is billed as 300 tables.

My 2005 Honda Pilot warns of low tire pressure.
At a show that size if I can't find a coin to buy, then
I go to the "Supply Dealer" and buy a book or two
regardless of topic. Last two times I went to Dalton
there was a supply dealer there who had a wide
variety of books at very reasonable prices plus
multi book discounts. Really enjoy reading about
other series even though I will never collect them.
