I know the answers. Take a guess? You only have one image so it is going to be REALLY CHALLENGING.

There are four, long, mostly horizontal lines across the surface of this coin:

I'll label the top one "A."
The next down "B."
The next down "C."
and the bottom one "D."

FIRST ROUND: For now you'll need to think of the things that could leave a "scratch-like" line on a coin. There are at lest four that come quickly to mind. Then You'll need to guess which of these made the "line." Reply with the letters that match your guess.

Example:

C ?.
D. scratch

ONLY THOSE who reply in round one with a guess are eligible to win the prize at the end. All members are encouraged to guess anytime.

SECOND ROUND: Tomorrow, I'll post magnified images of each line and you'll get a chance to guess again and can change your original guess. Answer in the same way:

I reserve the right to add clues. My answers are final and the winner will be decided using them alone.

The left central portion of the reverse of a U.S. Bicentennial half dollar;
three long die cracks (A, B, D);
one long thin struck-through sliver (C);
and some shmutz that resembles "putty".

The coin is rotated to in order to have the lines horizontal.

FIRST CLUE: Die breaks on a coin are raised. Even on the very rare occasions when they appear to be straight, at this level of magnification they are squiggly. Therefore, there are NO DIE BREAKS in this image.
Take some time to edit your answers if you wish. Everyone who guesses is going into the next round no matter how many correct answers you had. There were correct answers from some members.

This is a tough quiz and so far I have given you very little to view in a bad image.

(I changed my opinion on C).

I believe that A, B, and D are die cracks and not die scratches.
Die scratches are usually straighter and tend to be parallel, and they rarely form a perfect confluence like that seen here:

A, B & D are all connected at some point and are struck on (and stuck on) thin metal shavings.
C is post mint damage scratch.

I sure looks like the top two are raised (such that the lines are related to die damage) and the lower two are incused (which means PMD or, less likely, something foreign on the die surface). SO...
