High Resolution Cent Image

rmpsrpmsrmpsrpms Posts: 1,821 ✭✭✭✭✭

I've been on a quest for years to create full-coin images of Cents that can be zoomed-in to see variety details. I finally created my first such image today. See it here, and don't forget to zoom in!

Very nice! I zoomed in and it stopped zooming before pixelation. The mintmark was as big as the viewing area. I need this to view and compare my 1928 large and small mintmarks better.

Thanks everyone! This image was quite a bit of work to make, not for the faint of heart.

No worries...I use a Canon T2i with a Nikon microscope objective on bellows. Whole thing is mounted to an automated focus stepper that I cobbled together.

Wow!! Very impressive. I'm curious as to how many images this took to put together? I'm going to guess somewhere in the 200-300 neighborhood?

It was total of 120 images. 12 panoramas with 10 shots in each.

I just registered for free, and this gives some nominal amount of storage. I think I will probably use it more than that so will probably pay for next level up.

What a great idea. All my raw images come in at about 150 megs. I have to bring them down to about 5 megs for ebay and the other hosting sites. It would be cool if the sites would host huge files, but thats a lot of memory.

Why such big files? What are the pixel dimensions?

I am a professional Nature Photographer which requires the highest end files.

I use a High-end Canon pro camera. Don't know, could look it up, but I always go by file size 144 MB to be exact.

The high-end sensor works fantastic for coin photography.
