Tragic, but can't say I necessarily blame them.
Expect to see more of this sort of thing in the not too distant future. The world of retail is changing.
Horrible for those who like to see a coin in hand before buying.

Mine should close. They are not doing a good job for the collector or his widow.

I'm sure at some point safety will have alot to do with stores staying open. Or closing as well. At least shows normally have decent security at least the ones I set up at !

I am sad for the old Timey collectors but it does not affect my largely bullion purchases in any manner.
I am thankful for the simplicity, speed, reliability and low cost of the online companies that I use on a regular basis. I haven’t been in a coin shop in years.
It happens and it stings.
When my B&M closed I lost my best only one-on-one source for learning and guidance.

Crown Hill was also my favorite B&M coin shop - because of Dan O'Brian. I bought many coins there in the 80's and 90's, Dan had a lot of general knowledge of all series and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge with customers. I am also a third generation Ballardite, good lutefisk can still be bought there!

I was thinking of going there the past few months, but never got around to it (HATE going into any part of seattle these days)
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Oh boy, that is difficult to hear. I went to Crown Hill many times as a kid / teenager. I wish the O'Brians the best with their online presence going forward.
This is the only photo I have of a coin that I'm sure I got from them, some time in the early 2000's. (It's literally cropped from pictures of my then-incomplete Dansco 7070 that I uploaded here 10 years ago! Taken with a potato flip phone?) It's an 1853-O arrows half dime and was pretty cool for $15 or whatever. This one stands out as my very first half dime, and I think it was also my very first seated liberty, and also my first O-mint.
I also vividly remember getting my first Roman silver there, too, an antoninianus of Phillip II. Still sitting somewhere in my parents' basement.
It sucks to see any shops closing. Thankfully I have around a dozen that I can frequent on a regular basis.
Here's the most recent purchase from my favorite shop, it's just 5 minutes away.
I got quite a few calls and emails when I retired 3 years back. I had always tried to make the shop a fun place to hang out. Back in the day, I kept OV splits in the fridge. Nothing like a beer while playing coins.
I hate to see ANY business close, but when it's time, it's time......
@thebeav .....Wow... a coin shop and a beer while browsing/buying.... What a deal....Not even one coin shop in my area...a couple of antique shops have a few Morgans and Peace dollars in a display case...along with outrageous prices. And they never offer me a beer...or a glass of Cabernet...

I pop into Bellevue Rare Coins now and then but it's pretty generic stuff, bullion and jewelry - anything up my line they put on ebay.

I doubt it is the business that is closing, rather, in Seattle, particularly if you are a small business in the wrong place, it is not a great time to be in business.
The homeless/street person/drug addict situation is pretty bad in that area. Add to that the constant lack of response by police and constant increase in taxes of all sorts, and many small to medium businesses are moving out of seattle proper.
Just down the street from the store, at the local high school, they had summer camps and there were kids attacked by "homeless" recently....and drug addict/homeless camped out on the school's doorway. If it isn't safe for normal people, imagine having something like a coin shop......

That's too bad... I've been in that shop many times, had fun talking shop with Dan and more recently Kevin, and it's sad to see it go. My kids liked that they could look at comics while dad looked at his boring coins. Probably will be able to still say hi to the guys if they still attend Boeing/PNNA.
Side note - @Swampboy - thanks for posting. Would not have liked to find out on the storefront after driving over there from Sammamish!

b&ms without ebay sales... hurting ,, sales slowed even more with declining metal prices lessening buying revenue from walk in customers
theres not many left in this area anymore either
