Just added a MAJOR variety to my Washie set....THE CENTERPIECE!!!!!!!

DIMEMANDIMEMAN Posts: 22,403 ✭✭✭✭✭

The is one of the biggest varieties of the series. There are only 3 of these attributed at this time. This 64 and another 64 and a lone 67. The separation on this RPM is really wild with strong doubling on the bottom and a extra top serif North and East. It is actually listed as a triple punch in the CPG. Bigawgie helped me find this neat Quarter. That's what friends do. I am trying to find him a Jefferson that he needs. Thanks Mike. You are the man! Here is a pic of the centerpiece of my Washie set. The 1948-S/S RPM FS-501 PCGS64. Thanks for looking and comments welcome. :)

Yes, I forgot to mention it's a Ricko coin. :) I wish it had some pretty toning, but I love this coin for sure!

    Congrats,
I never really paid attention to varieties until the Bigdawg educated me on them, now I find myself checking for them more often

Nice one. Lots of die polish, but not really distracting. Congrats.

nice one. i agree about the spread of the 4 S punches. amazed me when i found the one i did. if not for the toning on the one i found, i wouldn't have bought it. oops.

i just checked and saw the first one attributed by pcgs, the one i found by happenstance, just sold for $4k via heritage. nearly 4x what i sold it for a few years ago. wowsers.

now the real test will come since there is a big result for a very inexpensive coin (non-variety) in unc. will the pops jump in the next 6-24 months?

the 47-s is pretty neat imo as well.

    gratz on filling the hole.

That must have been what limited it to 64, which shouldn't. I could see it in a 65 holder.

This has been well sought after for quite a while now with only 3 found. So it may well be like several of the Roosie varieties and be very hard to find.

    Looks like MS65 or 66

i've heard of some circs but it is odd they haven't been submitted yet, makes me wonder if they were dubious claims. had to say because i do know of people that collect tough type/varieties etc and don't sub or attrib them but as they get sold, upgraded etc, it is unlikely they wouldn't be sub eventually.

sure would like to have my old images of the closeup for this mm area. really amazing imo.

This would be a great candidate for @rmpsrpms 3D photo technique.

Lance if you click on the image you can blow it up very large and see the RPM very well.

That is a real difficult variety to find, been looking a while but haven't even seen one until now.
Congrats on a great addition to your set!

@DIMEMAN I always enjoy, learn from, and appreciate your posts. This is my favorite series. I shared my recently completed, circulated Silver Washington set not long ago here on the forum. If the day comes that I am blessed enough to afford to complete a second set, but high grade instead of circulated, I will because I love this series that much.

I enjoy all the toners and even the blast white ones. And those die polish lines, in my opinion, add to the eye appeal of this one. The mintmark reminds me of when someone would triple up on a letter on a typewriter.

    Great coin. Thanks for sharing!
