BIG changes coming to eBay starting September

Just received an email from eBay expression advising their efforts to move away from Paypal. Starting September, eBay will be starting an "opt-in" program, for eBay sellers. This program will have eBay as the mediator, instead of Paypal. All payments would go through eBay and eBay would decide on all issues ie disputes. There would be no chargebacks allowed as eBay would be the ultimate decision maker. EBay will charge only 2.7% instead of Paypal's 2.9% fee.

Thanks for the info !!!
2.7%... how generous...
The email also said they would be reducing FVF's for the eBay transactions, but they didn't say how much.
This is the stupidest thing I've heard from eBay. Moreover, how can eBay stop a charge back? Are they adopting a cash only policy? As long as they accept credit cards, they are bound to credit card agreements that allow for charge backs.
I wonder if eBay is going to continue with its "buyer (almost) always wins" mentality it has had up to this point. In my opinion, this should be a deal breaker for most sellers. It may be "opt-in" for now, but once eBay gets is greedy paws on that 2.7% extra income, I'm sure it will become mandatory within a year.
I thought paypal charge 4% not 2.9%?
No, they are at 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction - for most people. If there is a foreign exchange involved, the rates are higher.
They charge 2.9% plus 30 cents. When selling a lot of people just say 3% when selling to make it easier.
3.9% on non domestic transactions.
It's a 10% discount. Given that processing credit cards isn't free, eBay (or PayPal) does not get to keep all of that money. Heck, if you use Amex, they may see very little of that money.
Yes, foreign exchange is higher. Is it uniformly higher? I seem to recall 3.5% on a UK payment recently.
Maybe you're thinking of international rates?
I wanted to post the link/email describing this new program, but according to the eBay page, it's non-disclosure agreement prevents this. I'm sure eBay will soon release the specifics. For those that are ebayexpression members, you can sign-in and read the details:

It sounds like buyers are getting less protection in exchange for a minor discount. It does not look like a great deal to me.
So basically eBay will be their own processor of payments?

Looks like ebay just wants to be a one man show and have everything in house.
HAPPY COLLECTING
Yes, sounds like they will be processing their own payments.
I plan on to continue to use PayPal (with my 2% cash back credit card) until I hear other's feedback on how the new eBay policies will affect buyers/sellers. I'd rather not be the Guinea pig for ebay....after learning all the ins and outs of the paypal policy.
It doesn't sound like that at all. It sounds like eBay is handling it all internally - including buyer/seller guarantees.
How the hell can someone disagree with the original post which was just informative not an opinion?
56 days to get a site up and going.
Actually, they bought a European payment processing firm so it's really just site integration.
Hopefully paypal will still be an option.
I wonder how long before we get the "2 free years of credit monitoring" apology email.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Yikes.
I'm starting to lose track of where Ebay moved the deck chairs.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
As I learned .... " when something is coming down the chute, something else will be going up the chute". Can't imagine what that might be.

I'm so confused by this bizarre model / turn of events.
1) eBay wholly owned PayPal from Oct 2002 until their complete divestiture in July 2015.
2) eBay spun off PayPal as a separate publicly traded company in 2015 because a billionaire hedge fund manager urged them to.
3) Now eBay is going to start up another "internal" payment system?
eBay is always coming up with some new way to "screw the seller and buyer" -- so call me paranoid or pessimistic, but I can't see this being some "benefit" for anyone except eBay.
Wait until eBay has to implement some way for every seller to collect and disburse sales tax to individual states ... after the recent Supreme Court ruling in South Dakota vs. Wayfair, Inc

That's my STALKER. He apparently has decided to stalk me because I am Pro-Trump, so he has left me 300 disagrees. He has personally attacked me and I have reported him numerous times, but they wont do anything about it, so I've retaliated and left him disagrees, unfortunately it didn't do any good. He has posted that he believes I am sending others after him. It's a sad world sometimes.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the new sales tax ruling and if ebay is going to collect such tax and remit on sellers' behalf.

Are you new here...TDN got a disagree for yawning.
No, I don't think so. I just checked it. My sale is 570 for a coin and paypal charged me $25.38. Another example is to Canada.
the coin is 130 and shipping is 26 (I over charged and I refunded 2.4 later). So the total is 156, paypal charge me 7.16.
I'll wait until the fine print is published.

Are you the one who gave him 1000 disagrees?
Canada would be international
No, they bought the European payment processor in the Spring before that ruling came down.
No, he earned most of that all by himself. I just gave him the same number of disagrees he gave me.
>
Would that number be 1000?
Well, yawning actually is an opinion. But, it was more of a rhetorical question. I know how it works. I have a "fan" who disagrees with almost everything I post also.
