House is going to be tented for termites

Hello all, Not sure if this is where this question should be so if in wrong area please forgive me. I am having our house tented for termites. They envelope the whole house with tent & inject chemical in. My question is do you think my NGC slabbed gold will be OK or should I remove from safe. We are staying in hotel & prefer to leave in the safe. Thanks in advance, Jim

    Of course the PVC from the Ziploc bags will add another measure of film protection on the coin surfaces. :)

    Yes good question.

    Never been tented but used flea bombs and those tarnish silver. I'd just seal up as recommended and maybe use tape to seal door on safe.

    No PVC in Ziplock bags - polyethylene should not be a concern.

    Perhaps some masking tape around the edges of the safe door as well?

    Thanks all. Ziplocks are the answer, but tape wouldnt work as from what I can tell it in goes into the 2X4,s, drywall, plywood, everything from the info from terminx

    High end $10 a roll duct tape is a super thick sealant. If you remove it in a few days to a week it should peel off leaving no residue. Leave a tab to make the tape easily removable.

    It's very nice of you to keep the little termites dry and warm in a big tent. Wasn't there a slogan about that some years ago?

    Hope the termite exterminators get every one of the little beggars, all their eggs, and even all their easter eggs!

    Ziplocs and tape for the safe door... Worry more about silver than gold anyway....The reason for the tape on the safe door is more to keep the gases out of the safe, so when you open it after the extermination, you don't get a big whiff of chemicals...and use good duct tape, masking tape will not work.     $1500 is a pretty nice quote. I hope they do a good job.

    You could always leave some coins out for AT, charge an 800% premium and list them as a Nigerian Prince's collection passed down to your great grand-cousin eight times removed.

    Why not completely wrap the safe with visquene. Inexpensive then duct tape all areas of the seams on the visquene. Thereby doing it all in one sweep. I box of visquene and 1 role of duct tape. 1 edge knife would take you 1 to 2 hours. It would be like wrapping a large present.

    My guts say that any coins of real value should be removed from the premises. I don't trust the chemical guys all that much.

    probably a good time for a weeks vacation as well.

    You could always just mail them to yourself, registered of course Then your PO will securely hold them for you in their safe until you are good to go again.

    You could also do this with the family and avoid hotel charges....But parcel post might be the best way.... ;)

    Good idea, but be sure to document the contents. With no sales invoice, the P.O. could easily deny the claim.
