Just released Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has a coin related twist
The auction scenes in the just released film Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom remind of the coin auctions that have come to define our hobby.
My one sentence review for the film: They knocked it out of the "Park,"
Pictured below is the Moviebill that was handed out to those attending on the first full day of the film's release. My "collectible" prop dinosaur egg is also included in the photo.

And for those with an interest in seeing the movie here is some added commentary.
My favorite graphic from the Moviebill that was handed out to those attending on the first full day of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - "Turns 25 - Give or Take 65 Million Years."

Also from the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Moviebill:
(Of particular interest with regard to making of the movie was the use of traditional effects to include a blood bladder for an animatronic "Blue the Raptor.")

And, the story behind my pictured Dinosaur Egg:

(I acquired the movie prop dinosaur egg to incorporate with an intended exhibit of my collection of several actual fossil dinosaur eggs.)
An added note for those intending to watch the film in 3D, staying through the credits one is rewarded with an additional post Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom scene in 3D. It caught me off guard since the credits were not displayed in 3D so by the time I got the 3D glasses back on it was over.
And speaking of credits, and on a personal note, I caught the name of the Hawaii Five-0 Locations manager with whom I have had dealings in the past. Timmy Chinn is credited as the Hawaii Second Unit Assistant Production Manager. (Much of the filming was done in Hawaii.)

I love this stuff !!
Is the 'license plate' simply an advertisement for the movie? I have not been to a theater since 1992...and as I recall, it was a Jurassic Park film.... Cheers, RickO
Most other reviews better align with dinosaur coprolite and fake "eggs" than a "home run."
I picked up the license plate some years ago. We actually had a green ML320 that looked similar to the ones in the 1997 Jurassic Park film though never ended up putting it on the vehicle. It will likely end up as part of my eventual exhibit with the real fossil dinosaur eggs.
Sorry, what/where is the "coin related twist?"
The auction scenes. Looks like some of the participants were actually throwing out nuclear bids and there was at least one over the ten million dollars that landed a fellow board member his 1794 Early Dollar.
That's a fine rubber band you have there. Quite a stretch.
Saw the movie last night. The closest we've come to walking out before the movie was over in a long time. Shudder.
Smitten with DBLCs.
Definitely some mixed reviews. This one lauds the dinosaurs but has reservations about the humans. Where it counts though, at the box office, the film is on its way to a blockbuster opening weekend in the U.S. with a revised upward take of 144 million. Not bad for a film that cost 170 million to make - and that's not including the foreign take already over two times that.
Some Coin!
An excerpt from the review:
"If you thought there was going to be too much CGI in Fallen Kingdom, you're wrong. There's a surprising amount of practical effects on display – in fact, it's the first time I've felt genuinely disgusted by these creatures. From the flies buzzing around Rexy’s stinking sleeping body to the mucus and phlegm we see, there’s an impressive blend of both CGI and practical effects in use that helps bring us closer to the dinosaurs. This closeness helps us either feel more afraid or in the case of Blue, a dramatic medical treatment scene really highlights the bond that Owen has with her. Practical effects and CGI are merged seamlessly here and we end up with a touching sequence that also draws in video flashbacks of Owen raising Blue which are obscenely cute."

The Coin:
“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” is looking to take a bite out of the weekend box office with an estimated $144 million from 4,475 North American locations in its opening weekend.
Earlier estimates had pegged the Universal-Amblin Entertainment film in the $130 million to $140 million range. The adventure film opened to $54 million on Friday, including Thursday night previews of $15.3 million.
“Fallen Kingdom,” which carries a production budget of $170 million, began rolling out overseas two weeks ago, and has already earned $466 million from 51 international markets, including $170 million from China."

We had movie time weekend. Watched all 5 transformers movies. Things are like 3.5h long. If I couldn't sit here and nurse my arm smoking medicine, I doubt I would've made it otherwise.
The last Jurassic World almost had me leave. I'm sure it left my wife wondering the width of Chris Pratt's first two fingers.
On filming in Hawaii, I mentioned once in the coins in cinema thread.
Directors of Journey to the Secret Island (I think it actually has 3 names, two changed during marketing and one changed at release).
Anyway, since they were filming in Hawaii and came across the true city of gold, they wanted to "make it rain" gold. Their plan was to use gold colored sugar flakes or green screen paper/film/etc.
Turns out it's super illegal there and the natural preserve guards stopped them in their tracks. They had to go out and buy a few stacks of gold bars for the scene. In the extras the guy says "a few bars and some coins". I hope no amazing coins!
Always interesting to learn the backstory behind the story. Thanks.
Actually saw this plate on a vehicle recently.
