Where can you get $2.72 in change from $2.00 payment?
Hmmm. $1.54 purchase, gave clerk $2.00 and should get $.46 change right? Not at the Dollar General Store in Ghent, WV. Bought a bottle of water for $1.54 and gave them $2.00 and received the change below. I tried to get more, but that was all they had. lol
Hardly ever see silver in change anymore, but then to get 2 dimes at the same time, cool.

Nice snag. I'd have asked to buy the rest in the till, or a roll. Wife brought me home almost a whole roll of wheats after doing the weekly deposit.
Nice return on your purchase!

Wife: The kids need to eat, so I'll just take this $5 roll of dimes my husband hid in his sock drawer and by a case of Ramen noodles and a Coke, I'll just get a another roll of dimes at the bank once we get paid, he'll never miss them.

That's fantastic and I think that @WoodenJefferson is probably pretty close to the correct theory of how this occured.

Many elderly people will take old change, paper money into stores like these and spend them.
) I know this because I purchased the coin off the aussie gent.
I saw an elderly lady buying items at a dollar store with unc 1954 canadian bank notes, the teller asked the owner if she could accept them his eyes lit up and he said yeah i guess it is ok.
Another person in our local Ski resort town of Whistler who works in a coffee shop, some one came in with a Canadian 1967 $20 gold coin and bought a coffee and received change for $20 by the smart aussie coffee shop teller who said he would exchange his $20 bill for the coin (not fully knowing its value but thinking hey thats a cool coin) gave the customer their change who seemed like they could care less of what the Canadian low value coin was just that it was $20 canadian face and they wanted to spend it ( I think the person was one of your kind America lol
Just a couple stories, oh and I found a couple mercury dimes in the coinstar return gotta love that
all around collector of many fine things
Guess this is one instance where I'd agree that buying water was a good idea.
I got in line behind an old man at the lottery ticket machine one day a few yrs back and he was having trouble getting the machine to take his money. I offered to help the guy and noticed he had a new pack of silver certificate $!.00 notes. Obviously the machine wasn't set up to take notes from 1957. I offered to give him some different cash for them and he said "No thanks" and took his money and left. He must of had an entire 100 note pack because it still had the band.
Was at the casino in Elgin, Illinois, right near where we have the National in Chicago and I was playing craps. Some guy bought in and dropped (10) $1,000 bills. They looked them over for about 5-6 minutes and finally gave him $10K in chips. I about fell to the floor.
Later, Paul.
Nice change return.... and some great stories here as well... would love to find a gold coin in change or the coinstar slot...Just as much chance as winning the lottery
Cheers, RickO
