I think he's referring to the fact that the Dan Carr silver round has been ATed in a very amateurish manner.

A perfectly valid OPINION, but if somebody were to offer the same opinion on, say, a 1964-D Peace Dollar, he would get booed by the peanut gallery.

If altering the date of a coin, without intent to defraud, is acceptable, then altering the color of a medallion is acceptable.

I am at peace (no pun intended) with these two questions, and shall not lose any sleep over either.

I think it’s befitting the host metal.

edynamic is the king of AT eBay coins. He’s seems to have figured out a way to tone coins in their slabs and appears to be getting his doctored coins straight graded at PCGS. The title of the thread was tongue in cheek as ATing Dans rounds isn’t nearly as alarming as the number of ATed coins he getting into or toning in TPS slabs

That may be the case but if he paid money for the coin he really can do with it what ever he wants. I doubt Dan would really care but if drfish wants to send me a pm on how he gets his coins to color I wont tell ANYBODY. :D:D:D:D:D
Maybe @rin#te on the coin and store it in sunlight for weeks on end in a plastic bag with an aluminum piece in the bag? :|

Edynamic is the eBay seller that ATs everything including slabbed PCGS and NGC coins. The post about ED toning Dans work was tongue in cheek as this guy crossed the “bridge” a looong time ago. Not sure why the TPGs can’t shut down his toned “certified” coin business

It looks more like abuse to me :#

So this seller has coins slabbed that have been AT'd. How is that legal? Wouldn't that be considered fraud since it appears he is altering them after they get certified and then selling them for a premium. If this has been discussed before I apologize!

A government accident left me a former man, a potato. That photo on my profile is a low resolution selfie. I like coins.

    A Bridge Too Far!

This bridge from the film, "A Bridge Too Far" as I photographed it from the train just outside of Nijmegen in the Netherlands.

Locations for the film are situated on the real battlefields of Market Garden - at Eindhoven, Grave, Nijmegen and the crucial drop zones surrounding Arnhem. The only newcomer is the 8th-Century city of Deventer, which has become the film company's permanent base of operations. Arnhem itself, with its infamous bridge, is today an ultra-modern bustling metropolis four times its wartime size. Deventer, 40 kilometers to the north, by coincidence had a similar circular arched bridge and period architecture that escaped war damage.

It’s almost like he didn’t even try to make it an acceptable AT. That’s just nasty looking.

Agree. That sloppy AT job is not market acceptable and won't fool any experienced collector.

    "Fantasy toning"

Regular toning wasn't issued for those years so it's legit.

That is actually a great question. Under federal law it is illegal to alter a coin for fraudulent purposes. If he is selling AT coins as NT then he might be on the hook. (Not sure if DCarr's stuff would get him in trouble, though, as they are private issues).

I've seen various toning and "hobo" carving of my pieces. I have no problem with it so long as the person performing the alterations isn't doing it for fraudulent purposes and they aren't claiming they are "Carr" modifications. After all, it makes the normal pieces a little bit scarcer.
