Coin collectors haven't changed in a century

Here's a little note from a coin collector to the mint director. Like most of us today, he wants his coins "directly after they are struck."

Wouldn't it be great if the Mint had a once a month "Coin collector day" where you were invited in to "Grab" a fresh coin right from the machine.
Wonder just how many 70's would get graded this way.

If usual procedure was followed, he was instructed to write to each mint and request coins of the current year. He had to include an extra 8-cents for postage and registered mail.
They'd probably send them in and get AT.

Coins caught on a soft material right from the press ejector might qualify as MS-70. Once they fall into the receiving bin, they are just uncirculated.
Representative of times past... when a citizen could write to the mint (or really any government agency) and expect a reply....Now, one might get a form letter reply, if any. Cheers, RickO
Some people will go to great lengths to try to get what they want... I can't blame him for trying.
I did notice however the difference in the writing skills from the mint officials to this letter from a layman from other letters you have posted.
State and Federal governments, and businesses, have been sending form letter responses for centuries. Once they were handwritten copies, then typed, then mimeographed, now pe-printed to resemble typed letters.
