I really should check to see if I have any smoothies...I have never looked at the sets for that anomaly.... Thanks for the reminder. Cheers, RickO
Plain edge dollars don't seem to be especially "rare." But, they are certainly interesting errors.
My stock ebay pic. Made a small fortune on these. Found over 500 in fed reserve bank bricks I bought from local banks. Live in one of the very few areas that received them. Was buying 10 bricks at a time. Literally searched over 50,000 coins.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I hate you!
so did all my buyers once the initial feeding frenzy ended. I was early to the market and getting 300-500 raw in auctions.

Really dropped in value when they indicted that guard for stealing them from the mint.
No, that's not true (above post)
Thx - I will check it out at home (can't access eBay or any auction site where I am now).
I sold app. 80, all raw for between $75-$115 each in 2007 when the rage was on. One guy came to my work place to cherry pick 10 coins.
Of the rest I have slabbed, only 1 made a 66 from our host.. and 1 64
All of mine were from SO CA banks.
I think it was because collectors realized the quantity of them out there especially once it was not limited to the Washington coin.

Could been but have memory problems from back then and that was what I saw as the cause.
Here's a James Monroe $1 plain edge still sealed in 2008 Annual Dollar set
Yowza, these have come down, and I mean all of them. Might have to start collecting them.
I had no idea how inexpensive these had become !
