It's been a LONG time.

Lately, I've been adding late to middle date PCGS Walker coins to my set that are duplicates of NGC coins that I already have, as I've been participating in the PCGS registry. I have also been buying Morgans, Franklins, Peace dollars and other unusual things. I have NOT moved forward with acquiring the last 3 early dates needed to make my Walker full set 1916-1947 100% complete....until now.
In the spirit of the Dr. Duckor sale (a sale in which the finest known gem 1919-D sold for $240K and had the best strike and originality that I had ever seen) I have acquired a 1919-D in 63. Last year around this time two 19-D 63s had sold (an NGC CAC coin for $24675.00 and a PCGS without CAC coin for $21737.50) The former had a great strike but surfaces looked dull, while the latter one, though quite a bit softer, had pristine surfaces. My high bid for each was blown out of the water on BOTH occasions.
I found this one for around Greysheet bid from one of my FAVORITE dealers. Who needs auctions, right??? LOL I like it about as much as or even more than the other two from last year...What do you think?
It reminds me of the Duckor coin but just not as complete in the skirt line area. I'm not saying that it is of the same quality....it's not......just similar in certain ways.
This coin is about as good as I can do for this issue.

CONGRATULATIONS. That has a great strike for the issue.
Superb head detail. Excellent branch hand. Just a tiny bit of noise in a small part of the right field - the rest is great. Great sun/rays and left arm.
The reverse shows good detail and may hint at storage in a paper coin envelope.
For what 19-D's can look like (no discernible branch hand, yucky strike), yours is high end.
Excellent and congrats again.
Wow! An excellent strike for this issue. One of the best I've seen in any grade. Congrats!

Holy Cow Jeff!
'19D that nice is.........NICE!
Fantastic! Great addition.
Wow - what a moose - the head and hand detail is phenomenal for the issue!
Ironic that JohnF chimed in....my '19D is from DL, but it's a lowly XF45.
very sharp thumb on the branch hand, and love that reverse patina, esp. the blue accent on the wing top.
Congrats on your Walker pickup!!!

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

@Walkerfan...Congratulations on a great addition to your collection.... Very nice detail.... Cheers, RickO
Really nice. I would prefer yours ove most 'higher' ones I have seen.
Very nice! Which are the two that remain?

Early date Walkers, yum! Always neat to add to a collection, congrats. I like the toning on the eagle, really frames the design nicley.
Sweet coin! Congrats.
i really like this walker. i especially like the reverse. the eagle looks great. congrats!
Congrats on the NEWP.
Awesome that you have almost completed the set. Like you, I have parts of the set going too except that my 1916 thru '33 run is VF to XF, the MS pieces run a bit rich. In that early run, I just need two more dates too, the 17-S obverse and (gasp) the "common" 17-S reverse!

Awesome story and coin! Isn't it great when you can acquire a huge coin from your favorite dealer? I Love that!
Thank you all SO very much! I couldn't be happier with the coin. It has a great strike, good surface preservation and has some originality. As @JBN said; it has likely spent a long time in storage of some kind. There is a bit of softly frosted luster. The 1919-D is not known for it's luster and this one is a typical example but better than most.
This coin is special in another way, because it was the last coin needed for my 1919 MS Walker year set. I already have the 1919-S (a bear to find nice) and the 1919 P. I had almost given up on finding a nice 1919-D, especially at those auction prices. The year 1919 is special, because it's my grandfather's birth year and I really wanted to complete the set, as a tribute to him. He passed in 1992. I also was going for all PCGS coins, which makes it sweet.
@Hallco I will NEVER say another bad thing about a dealer ever again! LOL!! I don't know what caused me to do a search that day....something I read, maybe? But I knew, as soon as I saw it, that I must act. I really wasn't looking to buy, at the current time. I didn't choose the coin....the coin chose me. I knew that I'd regret it, forever, if I didn't buy it.
To all my Walker friends: @JBN @Walkerguy21D @cameonut2011 @mannie gray @Justacommeman @ElmerFusterpuck and all the others....Thanks guys, for your thumbs up and support! I respect your opinions. Also there is NOTHING wrong with an XF 45....that's a really solid grade and the 19-D is quite rare in that condition and I would love to see some examples.
@WildIdea and @MikeInFL You're right. The coin's reverse is great and has some nice patina to it.
@JohnF Thanks a lot!! DLRC had a super one in their inventory that has haunted me since 2009! Ha ha....Now I can relax.

Very nice!
Congratulations
@Walkerfan

You're most welcome. Your coin is superb.
Mine was an XF40, dull golden gray as I like my circs.
I never dreamed of having a MS example...hell, finding a decent "high grade" w/o rim bumps, scratches or abrasive scrubbing was difficult enough!
Big thumb up @Walkerfan!
