Your coin would be a 63/64 in my book anyday!
They may have graded it 63, but I grade it 61
Well, your coin is Uncirculated. With that amount of hairlines, I'm MS-62. I'm very tempted to say NCG graded it MS-63 but I think they also graded it MS-62.
Mr. Tradedollar, IMO, you are a little tough on this one. While I'm not wild about the color (should have been dipped) there are too few marks to drop it down to a 61.
Marks, smarks. It’s the dead areas- lifeless. Looks very similar to many of the unc 71-CC seated dollars that I’ve seen. Technically unc but badly mishandled

don't need to tell you this but enjoy a good "match" with a more experienced player than myself. It helps me and hopefully, others will enjoy it.too. Remember, we both agree the coin is Uncirculated. Now we are discussing where on that scale the coin will land in the opinion of a major TPGS. You have chosen MS-63. Others here are in that range. I could even see it. However, it is a 61 to you and a 62 for me. That may not be a big difference in grade or value yet IMO there is a big difference in those two numbers. Since MS-60 is rarely used any more, I strongly suggested that an MS-61 grade is too tough.

I believe that marks on a coin are one of the Major legs on the grading chair. Perhaps its most fragile leg as they are easy to see. Therefore, those little "smarks" are important to us and should not be overlooked. IMO, this piece has a few to very few. Actually, for me, the hairlines (there are probably more at a different angle) and color are the major detractions. As for marks, smarks, that's why a dipped-out, extremely dull - let's go with 71-CC $1 - with virtually no impact damage is not graded MS-60 or MS-61. Those grades usually indicate the coin is beaten up.
This coin is not. IMO, the only possible "return" you have is if that entire surface shows continuous hairlining from mishandling. Then the "book" says 61. However, In my experience, neither of the top two TPGS's uses that particular book.
Good for you. As I've been told several times in the past: "There are still SEVEN grades between this coin and perfection."
I think it must be nicer than the top pictures show because I was at 61 too. Lifeless, sub-par eye appeal and some hairlines.
I agree with OD and TDN. When I saw the pics, I thought very low grade MS. I didn’t care to decide which of the 60 to 62 grade I felt it deserves because the coin has minimal eye appeal based on the first set of pictures.
How does one get a hater to stop hating?

If the luster booms I could see it getting a 62 with our host as the hairlines are on the REV which is weighted less.
I thought a plus meant positive eye appeal so I would hope there is a charm to the coin not conveyed by pictures or scans. I have little faith in NGC, not a level I would use my money on
