Input on this 1885 O Morgan Dollar? Weakly struck? Beautiful toning!

Picked this up today for $42. The toning on this coin was incredible IMO. Incredibly hard to photograph due to the horrible condition of the NGC slab. The coin is graded at MS 62 but the hair above the ear and the feathers on the back look to be worn.... Weakly struck perhaps? Any ideas? Any input is greatly appreciated, I just wanted to add a nice toned Morgan to the collection.

That is a nicely toned coin, (especially the reverse) and a good deal at $42. Some O mint coins come poorly struck and yours is an example. It does have very clean fields for the grade though.

Pretty toning, weak strike but pretty nice eye appeal. Can't go wrong for the price you paid! B)

They had other coins where the obverse was toned completely like a dark blue/green color but the reverse had no toning... Would the coin I picked up be considered desirable toning? I am very new to toned coins and need pointers!

I think you did an excellent job with that pick up at that price. It's certainly desirable. The '83-O, '84-O and '85-O are known to come with really nice toning. As far the strike, it's just a weak strike. New Orleans in known to have some very weakly struck coins come out of their mint in this time period.

An ounce of sliver and toning for less than $50 bucks?

I'll say you did just fine!

The coin appears to have both weakness and some high point rub, and FWIW, I have no issue with the grade.

For $42 dollars, that is a nice pickup.... It does look - to me - to be weakly struck, but also some high point wear...Cheers, RickO
