I've been seeing many threads regarding OP /s being bored....and seems the more coins is being seek to remedy it; picture or otherwise :/ C'mon now....if you.... as a coin collector finds some saturation point; I think.... not of seeking more pictures of coins be a better option ;) Unless you are bored from other circumstances.......
I would go the opposite to remedy mine ;)

Posts like this are great for making me think about the coin collecting hobby's role in my life. Hearing about the boredom, passion, enthusiasm, etc of long-term collectors is invaluable.

Thank you for posting these types of discussions to go along with the rest of the coin talk.

I think JMBullion has a kookaburra coin along with some others that are related to Aussie. The way those birds sound I wouldn't think you'd need an alarm to get up and hear them. :)

I don't have a very large or very valuable collection (relatively speaking) compared to most here. And I only got back into coins, now in my 40s, a few years ago. It was a childhood interest instilled by my Grandmother.

I have been working at streamlining and focusing my collection and I have found that I am now able to be entertained by the pieces of my collection that I already have and not just by adding to it. That way my purchases are more meaningful.

I know this is off topic a bit, thanks for reading.

Always thought the rivers must have some interesting things in them after centuries of flooding homes and businesses. Of course the ocean would be a bit different, guessing people lose lots of jewelry while swimming.

I will be md'ing for the first time in my life next month when I travel with my family for a vacation in the town I grew up in. I can't wait!

One of my favorite coins is the silver Washington Quarter. I am 8 holes away from a low grade set I've been slowly working on for awhile, trying to get a nice look to it.

Sounds like a fun vacation. I think Dimeman has a collection of quarters he's been working on. He posts a pic every once in a while. This is a good place to share pics of your collection. I've been collecting Lincoln cents for a while but haven't bought anything in roughly a year or so.

As my Washington set is winding down I have been starting a Lincoln Memorial set. Both of these are in Whitman albums.

  • 1Mike11Mike1 Posts: 4,427 ✭✭✭✭✭

Whitman's is fun. You get to handle the coin and don't have to worry that the plastic slab will get scratched. I sorta like copper in AU. It looks right to me. Of course the MS looks awesome but I'm starting to lean in the direction of proof Lincolns rather than business strike when it comes to slabbed MS copper.

Bored = pay attention to a different hobby for a while. A person really needs 4 or 5 to fall back on. Coin collecting for me is number 2 or 3 in general, but right now in 5th or 6th place, no lie!

Try a more obscure area of numismatics where significant discoveries are still out there. Research tools are so much better now and numismatic research hasn't started to catch up in some areas.

Tokens and/or medals are a good example. There are some good books for certain states or subjects but other areas are sparsely documented. The items are generally inexpensive with many rare or interesting pieces available in the $1-$10 range. And there's tons of material on issuers now available online that has never been connected with the coins or medals. Maybe consider doing a little research, making the connections and telling the story here or in a numismatic publication of your choice. It's really fun and a good cure for numismatic boredom.

Problem with Kooks is they don't have a snooze button ! ! !

Need the following OBW rolls to complete my 46-64 Roosevelt roll set:
    1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!

Swimming with the mantas sounds fun, the closest I got to that was seeing some of them while swimming off the southern FL coast. There were several of them in the waves, you could see inside their mouth. Some people freaked and ran out of the ocean while I just enjoyed the scenery and nature. From what I've heard, they are fairly mild-mannered. Just don't want one to jump on you!

I remember a definition of bored I heard sometime in the past that stuck with me: "Bored is expecting someone or something to entertain you." I have not been bored since.
