Colourful 1942-S Walking Liberty half

HadleydogHadleydog Posts: 1,588 ✭✭✭

This new purchase holds a special meaning for me. It is from the Dale Larson collection, whom I am fortunate enough to have had the pleasure and privilege of sharing a few show and tells with about 15 years ago while living in Southern California. An absolute gem of a man who no doubt has forgotten more than I will ever hope to know, I have always looked up to him as both a mentor and a friend.
In my eyes, the highlight of his collection were his toned late date Walkers. When I saw them being offered in the most recent Legend Regency auction, and after receiving the appropriate permission from my wife (and some input from Dale), I am proud to say that I have finally acquired a piece from his collection.
Dale purchased this coin from Bobby Avena.
Hope you all like her.

That is a wonderful 42-S. Excellent color. Great looking right field; sun. Really sharp way to do the 42-S, what with its strike issues. Must be beautiful in hand.

The Dale Larsen toned WLH collection was a real treat. Chock full of distinctive eye appealing color coins in a series where such coins are atypical. The market certainly responded positively.

    Hearty congratulations on your acquisition.

Great pick up. If I didn't have one I loved I would have been on it. Tough date/mint mark to find with color.

    Congrats!!

Sad to see a great collection broken up, but on the flip side the opportunities to acquire beauties like that one will make many collectors very happy. Beautiful coin. The obverse is just breathtaking.

I agree with my other Walker friends....that is a really nice one. Strike is about as good as it gets and rare with any kind of color.

What a lovely coin. I am assuming the reverse held it back from a 67? The obverse is 67 to me.

aside from the typical "S" Mint central weakness that coin is a monster, very clean overall!! nice pick-up.

I agree with all the Walker folks (JBN, Walkerfan MJ) in this thread. I never found a 42-S I liked. This one has all the right characteristics for the date including beautiful toning.
The Larsen set looked very nice. I am glad it did well.

Now that right there is one gorgeous '42-S ! ! !

Need the following OBW rolls to complete my 46-64 Roosevelt roll set:
    1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!

    Gorgeous coin.
When I was assembling my set, I never really found one I liked, and settled on a MS64 that was brutally graded and semi -PL.
But it was nothing compared to this coin!
