My latest pick up. A 1939-D Mercury Dime PCGS MS67+FB

divecchiadivecchia Posts: 6,690 ✭✭✭✭✭

Here is a photo of the obverse and the reverse of my latest pickup. This coin is blast white and it got my attention as soon as I approached the dealers showcase.

Comments are always appreciated and as always thanks for looking.

    When I saw in the title that it was a 1939-D I expected one of the coins from that mini-hoard that came out in the early 1990s where all the coins were toned so spectacularly. Although this blast white beauty was not what I expected, it did not disappoint. It appears to have superb luster and surfaces and, from the images, lays claims to the MS68FB grade. Nice coin!

    I had to read your post twice to make certain it said "pop" and not something else. :#

    I am sure its a nice Merc but just not a coin I would go after. Gradeflation on the common dates has turned me off for quite a few years on some of the Mercs. For the money I would rather have a Early Date Merc in a lower grade.

    Hopefully you will enjoy the coin you purchased.

    Thanks all for the kind words and comments.

    @Fairlaneman
    Hi Ken,

    I appreciate your thoughts and would agree with you (100%) if I were an investor/dealer or collector trying to make money with his coins. In that case, that was definitely not a smart purchase. Being that I am a pure Hobbyist and Collector (not an investor) as my signature line states, I purchased that coin because it looked like it just came off the press. That is what I look for in my coins. This is my enjoy life money and I buy my coins purely for my enjoyment and no other reason. I don't buy a coin based on the grade or whether it has a pretty green or gold sticker on it. I buy each and every coin because I like them, and I have to like them a lot or they don't make it into my collection. That in my opinion is what collecting as a hobby is all about. Once I lose sight of that, it's time for me to get a new hobby.

    In all sincerity, I appreciate your thoughts and you trying to look out for me.

    Thanks, Donato
