When I was a kid growing up on a cattle farm, my grandad and I used to hot brand cattle. Smelled bad and the cattle weren't too fond of it. Can't imagine there is much call for that now. I took the pay and was off to the coin shop. Money was more valuable then. A nice xf double dime was $20, but that was a week's pay.

quick story, I started coin collecting as a lad in middle school in Brooklyn NY. On my lunch break, I walked up to Liberty Ave to a Manhattan Bank , went inside and bought a few rolls of pennies or a roll of nickels. I did this for weeks in the 1950's when there were IHC, Flying Eagle cents in the rolls. One day I went into that bank and I was asked to leave because they considered me a pest. I went home, told my parents that my coin hobby technique caused me to be persona non gratia. My parents gave me $5 to open a passbook savings account. From that day on, I went in made a $2 withdrawal in rolls of coins, refilled the rolls and deposited them back into my account and went back to class, Peace Roy

I had a deposit at the bank last week, let's say it was $324.87.
The teller puts the bills in a machine that counts them, then tries to add up the change [3 quarters, 1 dimes, 2 cents],
Finally she calls the head teller over and says "I'm not seeing 87 cents here". ? !
    This IS the future.

I like to give clerks exact change and watch their face as they wonder what to punch into the register. Peace Roy

:D With the avalanche of technology that we have experienced over the last fifty years, it is normal for people to seek the 'faster' way to do things.... just seems like the old system (i.e. card files, Dewey Decimal system, phone books etc.) which were standard at one time, are way too cumbersome now. I am a STRONG believer that often the " old ways " were better.
A lot of the resources which used to be available are no longer even being produced, such as physical maps. Therefore it is not always a matter of choice whether to use the new way or not.

Probably the eventual merging of man and computer...Scary. Cheers, RickO
