This little table, dating from late 1850, helps illustrate the scale and duration of various U.S. gold rushes to the beginning of the California event. Gold deposits are separated by date (left column) and state of origin (top row). Note the absence of Kansas Territory.

Very interesting! Thank you for sharing
@RogerB
wonder how much ended up making it all the way to destination. I see a commercial lately of a stagecoach rushing across the dirt covered roads and I think, they must of had something fall on the way. Perhaps Varied Sources was private establishment homes.

Very cool. Notice how much came from Virginia.
These are the deposits. No way to tell how much was lost or sent elsewhere.
Important cargo was stowed under the seats and between the coach's bottom plate and the floor. The bottom was usually an iron plate to protect from rocks. Gold was too heavy to be stowed under the driver's seat (as seen in movies).
Good stuff. Great history. Shows why C and D coins were necessary to cut down on long shipments and thieft before the gold even got to the mint.
Looking at the numbers through 1848 gives you some perspective on the magnitude of the California gold rush.

Do the numbers for GA & NC in 1850 indicate a playing-out of the gold deposits, or movement of the more experienced miners to CA?
Sweet !!!
Now that is a really interesting document @RogerB ....shows the yields and it looks like increases when a major vein was hit.... and eventually played out.... the California figures are incredible... Cheers, RickO
Maybe both. Good question though.
