SmudgeSmudge Posts: 9,824 ✭✭✭✭✭

Anyone else here who would like to see a spell check system installed. Would make my iq go up several points.

I thought we already had a spell check here. When I misspell a word a red squiggly line appears under the word.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Yea the misspelled or typo words get underlined in red. Some are also automatically corrected. You can hover over and right click to locate the word you are trying to spell.

"May the silver waves that bear you heavenward be filled with love’s whisperings"

"A dog breaks your heart only one time and that is when they pass on". Unknown

I can't believe I have not misspelled anything here. Never seen a red line.

Best example of the dumbing down of America.

  • SmudgeSmudge Posts: 9,824 ✭✭✭✭✭

My spelling leaves a lot to be desired and I don't always have a handy dictionary. Don't like leaving in the middle of a post to Google. Oops it just corrected leaving for me. I guess we have one, my bad.

I don't think it is dumbing down America at all....anything that helps is good.

Disagree. IMO, Spell check dumbs us all down. I review what I rrite and the little red line catches most mistakes. Better to look things up so you remember them.

That's like saying computers have dumbed us down, or radiation is unfair to cancer. And stupid people will still be stupid even if what they write has accurate spelling and perfect grammar.

LOL, we'll see. Believe it or not, there are news stories that kids can not read time on a clock or even write in cursive.

I don't think they even teach cursive in school anymore.

This is not what I intended. Can we just ignore it.

    That's what she said!

Need the following OBW rolls to complete my 46-64 Roosevelt roll set:
    1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!

And if you REALLY want to dummy down you can point at the message page and right click and select read aloud and it will read everything for you. What will these kids with computers think of next? >:)

Sorry, once you start a thread you can't dictate how it progresses or regresses. It takes on a life of its own. :p

You'll just have to hope that some troll posts a photo of a coin with obvious PMD and asks if it is an error, and maybe that will draw some of the attention away. Or maybe start a Daniel Carr thread. Or something political.

Some people think you Americans can't spell even with spell check! On my honour!

By skipping the superfluous extra letters such as the quaint but unnecessary "u" in "honour", we have lots of time to do other fun stuff. ;)

I agree spell check would be helpful. Our great minds tend to think ten steps ahead of ourselves. But It does make me pause, and gives me a little bit of a challenge without it.

Wow... such a long thread about spelling.... Must be a quiet night.... ;) Everybody resting up for the weekend... I have always liked writing and spelling, so any time I err, it is usually a fumble finger mistake.... I once saw an old thread resurrected and I read one of my posts.... and horrors!!! There was a misspelling... I actually edited the post. Cheers, RickO
