  I've heard of $8 cash and a $10 Indian. Or a 50 gold piece and 4 dollars cash. There are a bunch of ways to break it up depending of recipient and Giver.

  Wish I still had them. My grandmother worked at a bakery and saved the silver coins. Handed me about 20 Franklin halves.
