Going by the number of marks, which is limited to a small one on the chin, this piece looks like an MS-65 with a bit of a cameo P-L look, but the photo also makes the coin look like it has cloudy luster. Weak luster can lower the grade when a coin has clean surfaces otherwise. This piece may have been improperly dipped. I guess I'll say MS-64 based on cloudy look.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Image is flat. So, my guess is a lower grade. I can see some hits, but I think the flatness hides some. 63+, 64

Where! At least it wasn't my image this time ;)

The image just has a flat appearance, no pop! Are you referring to hits? Tip of nose. Check/neck line. Off the chin, etc.

Sorry, Surf....typo. I didn't mean "where!" I meant "Whew! At least it wasn't my image at this time ;) "
I was supertired and had insomnia when I posted....I knew I would make typos :(

I'll say a 64, based solely on the gouge on the jaw. Other than that it would be a SOLID 65, IMO.

I'll say MS64 and leave the guess criticism to the experts.

I will say that its near impossible to GTG of Morgans from TV's.
    Fun, none the less.

Hit on jaw and tip of the nose limit it to MS 64 IMO.

MS64 - somewhat muted luster holds it back IMHO from full gem status

From interpreting what most TV photos look like, I’d say this coin has poor luster and not PL enough to earn the designation. That’s difficult to see from a photo of course but this one seems too dull to warrant a gem grade IMO. Hits are minimal, especially on the cheek which is a huge advantage. I’m in at 64.

I'm very curious to see the results at this point! :D

    Ask, and ye shall receive.
PCGS granted it the illustrious "MS64" grade

Regardless of grade, I bought this one raw because it was very clean looking and, if I recall (haven't seen it in person for a few years...need to get it out again), it did appear semi-PL. I'll get it out again and look.

So, I found the coin, finally....had it NOT in a usually place I would put it.
Showed it to a fellow member, in person, at lunch.

They agree that it doesn't look like a 64 and looks MUCH better. The trueview doesn't show the luster (admittedly, it is not a "luster bomb" but it is not what I would subdued either) and it does exaggerate any hit.

I need to try to take a better pic (just took a couple with cellphone, in hand and sunlight) and then respond to a few folks.

All in all, the comments were pretty interesting. Shows that, even with a great Trueview shot, a picture doesn't mean everything when it comes to evaluating a coin.

To those that say it isn't "PL" enough to earn that designation....I agree. I think it may be close, but I wouldn't give it PL either.

On the grade...I don't think there would be a lot of people that would blink twice if they saw it in a MS65 holder...and not that many that would blink in a 66 holder. Just my opinion, but seeing it in hand again, I know why I sent it in and why I had it set aside where I would not normally have most of my coins set.
