May attend PCGS show in New Orleans next week, what should I expect as to # of dealers?

I'm a retail collector and go to 1-2 shows a year but have never been to a PCGS only show. A few questions for you veterans...1) About how many dealers go? Are there many retail shoppers like me? Do the dealers have time to deal with general public? I assume it's not taboo to deal in non PCGS coins while there?
Thanks

I cannot comment on the New Orleans PCGS Show, but I did attend the Dallas PCGS Members Only Show in 2016, and it was...intimate. There were approx. 36 dealers, mostly displaying higher-end items that were beyond my collecting budget. The lunch that was served was a nice buffet style. I chatted briefly with Mark Stephenson but I did not stay long.

I went to a PCGS only show in Las Vegas, and intimate is correct. Once the gradings for the dealers in attendance are done, they split. The remaining stuff, while very nice, was VERY premium.

GSAs, OBW rolls, Seated, Walkers. Anything old and Colorado-focused, CO nationals.

Gonna get me a $50 Octagonal someday. Some. Day.

Thanks for the responses, ballpark "very" premium...$10K or $100K type ball park?

$1000 to $500,000k. Usually less then 40 tables. Not everybody has coins out. For sure most don’t bring their full arsenal. The auction will be great. On site grading. The dealers have a lot of time to converse with the public.

Thanks, sounds like it will be worth the trip, I am "mid size" collector but have not been to a show in awhile and only know a few dealers well...be a good chance to get some info and meet some new possible dealers to work with. Being a pure collector it can be hard to find dealers who care about those of us who go months without being in and out of coins. I love Heritage for all the resources and have done business with them, Legend etc. but I am pretty much buy and hold and not big enough nor want constant attention....

Nothing bad can come out of going. Meet some business contacts and coin folks and see some stuff that'll blow your mind for 12h or whatever.

IIRC this is a 4 day show. Go early and go often.

You'd be surprised at the world class dealers you can get face time with. These are guys you never even see at a major show. I think its a great secret selling show if you need to sell. The real players are they, they don't cheap u, they will make real offers on what coins are worth.

Plus, PCGS puts out one heck of a spread for lunch.

Thursday is the best day to attend (unless of course your doing the auction wed). Friday dealers biz is usually done. I think this show opens Tue for submissions. Do note, if PCSG gets swamped, they might have to take coins home to finish them

Maybe 50, then about half the 2nd day and half that the 3rd day...if they have a 3rd day.

Since you have not attended one of these shows, it will be interesting to read of your experience. The fresh perspective can often be illuminating. Cheers, RickO

99.44% sure I will be there Wednesday.

I'll be on the lookout for mustard stains but I'm sure if I find any it will be Grey Poupon. Nothing but top shelf mustard for top shelf dealers. :)

@BAYOUBENGAL We will be attending and will probably have around five or so double row boxes of coins ranging mostly in the $300-$5k range. The dealers will very much have the time to work with the public. Hope you make it!

I've done that show before and had a blast! New Orleans is a fun city to visit outside of the coin show too; the old Mint Bourbon St, Preservation hall and tons of other stuff. You can even gamble at Harrah's to win money for your next big purchase! :D

The member shows are intimate like the others have said, you sometimes see coins around that never make it to a website.

Well worth it... Top dealers are there and for most levels of collecting with plenty of time for relaxed quality one on ones... Then the Legend Auction is always fun to take in... Very friendly professional staff that will help you with all your questions on lot viewing for the auction...
Our host PCGS does it right and you have a chance at seeing some great coins and nice breakfast and lunch buffets... At the auction it`s cozy and interesting to watch the lots sell and very good finger food to snack on....
All and all I have enjoyed all the Vegas ones that I have been to and wish I had the time for the New Orleans Invitational, as I would be there in a heart beat! :) AB

Mid afternoon snack in LV-ice cream!!

Best day to attend-Thursday. Fi is more of a grading pick up day.

With no major shows in May, this show is attracting a lot of dealer attention

Will they serve hurricane drinks like they did last year? I've been suggesting drinks before the auctions, will really loosen up the bidding! :D

I have been attending the PCGS Members Only Show for about six years. Probably my favorite shows. Its always about the people (well, the coins, too!), you can actually TALK to people and have fascinating conversations with folks. Many dealers and collectors that I can barely say hello to at a ANA or FUN show, I have gotten to know really well at the PCGS shows. If you have never been, you will need to adjust your expectations, it is not large and there is not a lot of hustle and bustle going on. Maybe 25 tables, and a few more dealers that just show up. Lots of submissions and grading going on. There is something for everyone. The food is catered by the hotel and is very good, ice cream in the afternoon. PCGS will typically have a great coin or set on exhibit. I think what really puts this show over the top, is the Legend Auctions they usually have at most PCGS shows. Great coins...with a focus on quality, something for everyone. The Legend team is first class and very friendly & accommodating.

So, its pretty clear I love PCGS shows, I try to attend most, and will be at the New Orleans show.

    Collecting since 1976.
