Do you think the buyer noticed the mintmark on this 1972 quarter?

A 72-d in 67+ is probably a $100-$200 coin at best.

Yea that's for sure a 72 d quarter. I wonder if it's wrong picture or wrong wording
HAPPY COLLECTING
A good example of why you should never drink while you are bidding

This one should be taken down due to the label error. @ianrussell what do you think?

Whoops.....Mechanical Error.....
Hard not to blame the buyer for just buying labels, if he didn't see the rather prominent "D". But I have a feeling that they'll blame anyone, and everyone else, return the coin, and demand a refund.
(Not even sure if GC has a return policy! Never considered returning an auction win.....)
But I do know Ian once offered to "do something" when I mentioned on these boards that I misread a label on a GC win, and called myself out on it.
I told him not to worry....and the coin ended up a happy member of my type set anyway. So, GC is a good company, and will probably undo it, even if it's not necessarily their fault to begin with!
Sheesh, I just noticed that this auction ended last night...probably too late to do anything about it.

The cataloguer should have caught it! It happens to all of them! A while back I once saw on Heritage a 13-S T2 Buffalo nickel in AU something graded and listed as a P or D....can't remember which but the bidders noticed it and it brought reasonable money.
Oh boy !!!
I realize it's easy to slam the buyer for missing the D-mintmark, but I also think we should cut him/her some slack. After all, the P-mintmark was added in that same position starting in 1980 and it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to believe that someone who collects clad WQs might have allowed that error to get past the filter in their brain.
Regardless, I highly doubt that the winner would have a hard time receiving a refund or a cancelled sale from GC given it was likely described incorrectly on the GC website.

Looks like the find & replace of a prior listing did not work out well for the seller.

Still a 72p registry cert...
We're canceling this sale and getting the holder fixed before re-auctioning. Sorry that we missed this.

I knew Ian would come through on this. Never a doubt in my mind. GC is a CLASS operation.
I never doubted for a second that GC would do the right thing. This is why I will continue to buy and sell with Great Collections.
For those not in the know on this series, what is the value difference between the P&D?

They both come really nice in the mint set but the Denver comes nice very often. The Philly averages a much lower grade but comes nearly as nice and even better struck on rare occasion. About 8% of Denvers are nice Gems but only 1% of Phillys. Phillys are plagued by strike, die, and marking issues.
MS-67 is pretty unusual for either of them.
When you are spending that much, you really should look at the coin in the plastic.
