Slightly OT...

Today is the Kentucky Derby - Now, this is only slightly off topic since a lot of 'coin' will be bet on this race. I do not follow ball sports, however, I do like to follow the Triple Crown races each year. This looks like it could be a very good year and a possible Triple Crown winner. Cheers, RickO

The most exciting two minutes in sports.
So Ricko, you're saying that you like the favorite ?
Who is the favorite?
Actually I do like the favorite... but not yet decided on who I pick as the winner... there is Mendelssohn, kind of a mystery horse....and Audible is a real threat. I will watch the pre-show where I can see the horses before I make my pick.....Cheers, RickO
@DIMEMAN ...Justify is the odds on favorite... but he is fighting the APOLLO curse....Cheers, RickO
Remember the Greatest Horse of all time......Secretariat and the 1973 Belmont! What a horse.
There are youtube videos of all the old races, and they are great fun to watch all over again. Secretariat, Seattle Slew - both awesome.
I knew it would happen.
Don't forget Seabiscuit-War Admiral. A great story and even greater race !
Yea, I suppose the pre-show will give up some ideas.
Good luck folks !
Reminds of the one where a horse walks (trots, in this case) into the bar and the Bartender asks: " Why the long face ?"

How would you you wage @ricko ? Have fun and let us know how you fare
Secretariat
Secretariat was the most amazing horse....and Justify looks remarkably similar in many respects. I will let the forum know my choice before the race. Cheers, RickO
With 4 horses from the same sire it will be interesting to see which sperm wins!
I like the pretty girls in the big hats too
Jimmy Fallon usually has puppies predict the winner of the Derby. See here who will win and place ur bets.
Later, Paul.
Who is on first base ! Everyone knows that!
@DIMEMAN.... JUSTIFY is the odds on favorite.....Cheers, RickO
...Cool Thread @ricko ...Good Luck today and May the Best Pony Win
My daughter has 3 horses. Those hay burnin manure machines are expensive, but she ain't pregnant yet. Sure limits my stacking and collecting Jones though. I'll be watching.
I still can't stop watching the Disney movie about it. I love the kick-ass 31 length win in the end!
Justify!
Gonna get me a $50 Octagonal someday. Some. Day.
Horse racing is not my thing, even though I live in "horse country" in NC.
I record the Derby so I can fast forward through it AFTER the fact (at this point I still don't know who won). I like seeing some of the hats, drinking juleps, and the spectacle of the event. Don't care much about the horses (the real stars in my mind), the jockeys, or the owners.
My wife went to the Derby in the '70s before we were married, I have no desire to go and neither does she these days.
Sorry to rain on the parade a bit, but I had other things to do today than watch horse racing.

My digital cameo album 1950-64 Cameos - take a look!
Well... I did not make it back before the race.... sorry... Great race and Justify - in my mind - is now a serious contender for the Triple Crown....Reminds me of Secretariat in several ways.... and to win like that on a wet track... WOW... Cheers, RickO
I did not realize there are many chinese conglomerates in this business too
Just can't get over the animal cruelty piece of horse racing, turns my stomach. Prefer real spots with human athletes doing extraordinary things rather beating up horses for a quick buck.
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
He will be the Preakness favorite. It is a speed favoring track with tight turns. Usually whomever is 1,2 or 3rd at the half is usually the winner. Preakness favorites do well in winning % wise. The 3 inches of record rain that befell the track was a betting disaster for the fans. I would say 5-8 horses had no business running on an off track. The trainers will not tell you beforehand in a race with this much prestige. There should of been at least a few scratches due to the track condition. You see scratches for off tracks at your everyday track, but not at the Derby. Too much at stake(bragging rights,"my horse ran in the Derby") for the horse to be lost. All owners/trainers/breeders want to see what is known as "black type" in the Daily Racing Form. But you can't blame the trainers, they are under the gun from the owners/breeders to run regardless of the track condition, because it is the Derby. This is unfair to the horse and especially to the bettors. The bettors may be unaware of a horses capability racing on an off track. But trainers know as they workout horses in various track conditions. Many horses do not like mud/dirt flung in their face and go "green" when it is done, thereby losing their ability to continue on in a competitive manner in a muddy race. Oh well, you can't have the wife/girlfriends of the owners, trainers, breeders upset by having the horses scratched, after all the $ spent on those hats.
