This is NOT a 1982 D . It's just a regular 1982 ,or what APPEARS to be. It also APPEARS to be a 1983, or 1985 ..... I see some type if repunch in the background of the 2 in the date. You can see it under the hood of the 2 on top and around the back bottom corner space. You can pretty much see it everywhere ... I am no expert, but this looks like a punch if a date and then another on top (just the 2) ???

    If you are seeing raised metal on the lower right side of the 2,
    it could be caused by a "die chip".
    These are relatively common, although interesting.

    If you are seeing something on the center left side of the 2,
    is it raised or depressed from the regular surface of the coin?

    The discoloration around that digit leads me to believe someone was messing with it. To what end, I don't know.

    But the damage(?) to the digit combined with the color seems to indicate "post mint".

    Yes I do see it on the center left side. I examined it well, it doesn't seem to have scratches to be post mint caused by altering in circulation. It seems to be slightly raised, not as much as the 2 but it also is completely underneath the 2.

    If it's slightly raised, then there should have been a corresponding depression in the die.
    It could be caused by a die clash, or by a narrow and very hard object striking the die.

    Looks like a poor attempt to turn a 83 Lincoln into an 82. Maybe the Chinese thought they could double their money for a .02 cent copper vs a .01 cent zinc. lulz

    I'll offer my first thought which is a different theory.

    Foreign substance. Look at the discoloration around the date.

    Take a wooden toothpick and try to flick off some of the substance. If it comes off, that's your answer. If not, a wooden toothpick won't damage your coin.

    Collector and dealer in obsolete currency. Always buying all obsolete bank notes and scrip.

    The 2 itself looks weird even if you ignore whats under it. I thought 1983 formed into a 2 right away also. And the chinese theory seems valid. I think technically it woul be worth something like 2.2x a non copper? If anyone can find an efficient way to make 1983 pennies into 1982 forgeries and profit it's the chinese. They probably went after the .2 as profit after costs.
