Blast white coins are what they all want

I wonder if this means things have changed and some/many toned coins will again start to be dipped white. lots of dealers in the past have said this is what typically happens, we go in cycles.

the admission fee is always a sticking point that doesn't make sense, it's a "cut off your nose to spite your face" attitude. think about it, you boycott a show to save a $5 admission fee and lose the opportunity to purchase something you have been searching for and may not otherwise find. add to that the social aspect of it and the "principal" victory seems rather silly.

I totally agree with this statement. I also see blitzdude's point.

But I will pay the fee to be able to look for coins that I need and/or want. :)B)

I know! I really liked the coin and swallowed hard and paid. Didn't even chisel him at all. Is it really that hard to open your case and show a coin to a paying customer? You would think I was asking to pull out the dudes wisdom teeth or something!

    Great report thanks!

What auction sites were dealers using to price coins to buy?

Some went to Coinfacts and others had something right on the dealer network that pulled up CAC only coins at auctions.

Blast white eh? Works for me, all I want is color.

Larry, I sold one decently toned Morgan. It was an 1880-P MS-66 CAC. Otherwise, forget about it, they skipped right over the couple others I had.

As always the parking is very convenient and the show access is quick for a show that is located in a major city. The five dollar charge to enter the show was nothing and I’m ok with passing it along to CSNS.

They put on a great show as far as I’m concerned and I’m thankful for CSNS for keeping this location which allows me to attend.
Although I’m a very small time collector I’m always fascinated at the dealer to dealer activity. Or should I say vest pocket dealer activity.??? I observed two gentlemen with headband magnifiers at a table going through coins like I go through popcorn at a movie. How can anyone come up with a fair price under these circumstances? I also find it very educational to overhear transactions taking place. Not intentional eavesdropping may I add. But I wish I had the talent of some of these people doing business. I just don’t know how a fair deal can be made at a show table when someone shows up with hundreds of coins? For this reason I had to pass on tables because this business transaction was taking up the whole table. I did meet some nice people and enjoyed talikg with them.
I wish I could have met some of the people from here that I read their posts everyday.
Meeting Billie from CDN was a pleasure and sharing VB likes. Also found the young man a
at David Lawrence very nice to talk with as well as Kagin’s people.
I only had one bad experience and it was a rude dealer selling nasty toners over by the books and supplies. I don’t think he will make it with his type of incivility. You just don’t make fun of people or maybe you do? I guess I’m a rare bird, whether you are indigent or wealthy I treat you the same.
Overall, I really enjoyed the show and seeing some great people.
Thanks CSNS! Hope to see you next year.

**I’m thankful for CSNS for keeping this location which allows me to attend **

I suppose that the show stays where it is because it's successful but it should move around where I would also expect it to be successful. from my perspective, the majority of dealers, both large, medium and small, would attend the show if it was held in other well scouted locations, so that shouldn't be a factor. keeping it where it is means that a lot of collectors won't travel to it.

for myself, when it was held in Columbus, Ohio is the last time I attended. it was easy to make a three hour day-trip and stay almost a full day, heading to Chicago means an almost six hour trip and overnight stay. I can only imagine that there are a lot of collectors from the east who will attend a Columbus show that won't go to Chicago.

please, rotate the location of this show.

I don't particularly like having to pay a fee to enter a show either, but it certainly won't keep me out.

"Not much else caught my eye. I did buy a coin from a very rude dealer and will post the result from my having it graded, once it comes back. (Maybe)."
In all of the years I have been collecting coins, only one dealer (someone whose name is familiar here) has been rude to me. If he offered me a real 1804 Silver $ at melt, I'd tell him what he could do with himself. People will treat you that way only if you allow it.

The plan is to thank him for the coin I bought in spite of his attitude, after it grades the way I think it will. If it doesn't, oh well! Life is too short to hold grudges.

As far as your 1804 example, no reason to act insane just because someone was rude to you right?

    Nice, informative report.

The OP must have had some nice coins to sell given the list of buyers and his satisfaction with payments.

This was my first show and I wasn't sure what etiquette was and every table I was at was the opposite thankfully where they were all happy to give me any of the coins. One dealer couldn't have been happier to hand me what must have been a 20k+ coin without me even asking because he was so excited to just pick it up and wanted me to see it. Others said "keys in just open it up and grab what you like".

I can't imagine acting like the dealer you dealt with. What an awful way to treat potential customers both for that day and for long term.

@ScarsdaleCoin said: "Im not sure why people would complain about $5. Comic Con in San Diego charges over $60 per day. Over 130,000 will attend and btw they completely sold out in 1 hour 15 minutes."

There is a plus and minus to admission charges. Both arguments are sound and It appears that your example answered your own question. I go to many different types of shows and there is a BIG DIFFERENCE. I doubt many collectors would even pay $15 to get into a COIN show with the Internet around. Try to compare the CS Coin Show to a typical large stamp, train, comic, gun, antique, car, etc show is nuts! Folks pay for what they want and attendance at many coin shows seems to be down.

Unfortunately, from what I read/hear some coin shows are dying and rather than encourage anyone to wander in and perhaps become acquainted with coins, let's make 'em pay a few bucks. What about charging $5 or more for admission and give them a ticket good for the admission price to use on a purchase? Heck, the dealer can add it on to the price of a coin and who'll know. :)

"I came all the way to this show to get my latest NCLT show-graded at $120 a pop with a special label and I'm being charged $5 to get in on top of free parking? That's outrageous!"

(Yeah, I know there was no show grading at CSNS.)

CSNS is a greedy organization! I see the asshat is still involved with the bourse! I think it was 20 years ago me and a friend decided a week before the show to try the show. Called and yes...there are still tables available. I will fax you an app and you will have to get it to me ASAP. Was filling out the app and hit a snag with the tax ID crap and gave him a call. Resolved that but forgot to fill out the names for badges. Got to the show and was told we had to pay $50 for the 2nd badge since no one was listed on the app! He didn't even acknowledge talking to me less than a week earlier and sent his Btch(I'm sure you all know who I am talking about) and held me to the rules!

I'm sorry...I don't do business like that and don't do business with people that do things that way! Add up how much they lost in bourse fees from me refusing to do their show for 20 years! I did have a decent show and pissed off 3 Canadian dealers who were lowballing a 10K set I bought! They were trying their best to low ball me on some of the coins I bought and I just grinned at them and told them I bought them for my collection(which was true at the time!).

Edit to add....forgot to point out we both had to pay dues to join the club which they could see to be able to buy a table!

No, I stand by what I said. If someone doesn't treat me right, I want nothing to do with him or her. I am old, and have no time for this sort of thing.

on the topic of rude dealers.........................at one regional show I was looking at some Proof Sets and after five minutes had a dealer yank one out of my hands and tell me "You're through!"

I looked at him and asked what his problem was but he just turned away. whenever I see them at a show I walk up to the table, say "Hello" and walk on.

Sounds like he is one of those dealers that doesn't like Cherrypicking. In all my years of variety searching I have only been ask to leave to dealers tables.

I had a dealer at Central States 5 or 10 years ago get upset and ask me if I am trying to cherry pick their bust quarters. I told them I would gladly tell them the varieties for all their bust quarters with the rarity rankings so they could put it on their holders. That made them calm down a little but they still seemed a bit put off. I gave them the info on the coins I was looking at and said thank you and walked away. I don't get it when dealers act like this but to each his own. If they don't want to get cherry picked, buy the book :)

How totally stupid for them to be worried about being cherry picked. Your money is the same color as a fool who walks up.

The water in the Convention Center restroom (while free) is too Flint, MI grungy to rinse my emerging jewel.
I'm going to score, but I have to pay for how much! at the concession stand for water to rinse it? :'(

guess no one here has ever been to comic-con. they charge a stiff fee. but then they offer a lot

ALL coin shows need to work on their appearance. CSNS clearly appears to be on the decline. Only FUN seems to "get it". The ANA remains to be seen, the last conv head was a pure dud, hopefully this new person will make it worth while.

I probably have the lowest net worth on this forum... I made the 600 mile round trip plus 1 night hotel, $5 dollar admission to look at a bunch of coins I can't afford. Didn't buy anything. The trip was worth every penny to me ! The problem was that I couldn't throw down the second $5 for day 2..LOL

Don't be so sure. There is a dude posting parking lot pennies as gold on here.

I, too, encountered a rude as hell a$$hole dealer at this show. I wonder if we all are talking about the same one?

All I know is that I will NEVER buy anything from him. Too bad he was selling coins that are very niche, which happen to be what I collect. Hope they sit in his inventory for years to come =)
