-The location could not be any easier to get to. You park for free and 5 minutes later, you can be on the floor. The 5 bucks fee everyone is crying about makes me laugh. If you can't afford the 5 bucks, no dealer wants you in there anyway!
Has absolutely nothing to do with being able to afford $5. It's a principle thing, why on earth should anyone have to pay any amount of money for the privilege of entering an event where they plan to shop and spend money? Not happening, their loss.
Do you have a Costco or Sam's Club membership?
I'm in the sticks brother. Don't think there's probably a Costco or Sams within a hundred miles of here. Local Amish folk are my Costco. They don't charge any fees to shop.
I agree about being charged to buy something. I fought having our local coin clubs charge admission to the shows, but it doesn't seem to have decreased attendance - it has probably gone up. I think people think that if it's free, it must not be worth seeing. I suggested charging $5 admission, giving people a token that can be spent for $5 on purchases over $20. If they are tire kickers, then they paid admission. If they are buyers, they pay nothing. Then the dealer just gets reimbursed from the club.
@keets said: Blast white coins are what they all want
I wonder if this means things have changed and some/many toned coins will again start to be dipped white. lots of dealers in the past have said this is what typically happens, we go in cycles.
the admission fee is always a sticking point that doesn't make sense, it's a "cut off your nose to spite your face" attitude. think about it, you boycott a show to save a $5 admission fee and lose the opportunity to purchase something you have been searching for and may not otherwise find. add to that the social aspect of it and the "principal" victory seems rather silly.
I totally agree with this statement. I also see blitzdude's point.
But I will pay the fee to be able to look for coins that I need and/or want.

As always the parking is very convenient and the show access is quick for a show that is located in a major city. The five dollar charge to enter the show was nothing and I’m ok with passing it along to CSNS.
They put on a great show as far as I’m concerned and I’m thankful for CSNS for keeping this location which allows me to attend.
Although I’m a very small time collector I’m always fascinated at the dealer to dealer activity. Or should I say vest pocket dealer activity.??? I observed two gentlemen with headband magnifiers at a table going through coins like I go through popcorn at a movie. How can anyone come up with a fair price under these circumstances? I also find it very educational to overhear transactions taking place. Not intentional eavesdropping may I add. But I wish I had the talent of some of these people doing business. I just don’t know how a fair deal can be made at a show table when someone shows up with hundreds of coins? For this reason I had to pass on tables because this business transaction was taking up the whole table. I did meet some nice people and enjoyed talikg with them.
I wish I could have met some of the people from here that I read their posts everyday.
Meeting Billie from CDN was a pleasure and sharing VB likes. Also found the young man a
at David Lawrence very nice to talk with as well as Kagin’s people.
I only had one bad experience and it was a rude dealer selling nasty toners over by the books and supplies. I don’t think he will make it with his type of incivility. You just don’t make fun of people or maybe you do? I guess I’m a rare bird, whether you are indigent or wealthy I treat you the same.
Overall, I really enjoyed the show and seeing some great people.
Thanks CSNS! Hope to see you next year.
**I’m thankful for CSNS for keeping this location which allows me to attend **
I suppose that the show stays where it is because it's successful but it should move around where I would also expect it to be successful. from my perspective, the majority of dealers, both large, medium and small, would attend the show if it was held in other well scouted locations, so that shouldn't be a factor. keeping it where it is means that a lot of collectors won't travel to it.
for myself, when it was held in Columbus, Ohio is the last time I attended. it was easy to make a three hour day-trip and stay almost a full day, heading to Chicago means an almost six hour trip and overnight stay. I can only imagine that there are a lot of collectors from the east who will attend a Columbus show that won't go to Chicago.

In all of the years I have been collecting coins, only one dealer (someone whose name is familiar here) has been rude to me. If he offered me a real 1804 Silver $ at melt, I'd tell him what he could do with himself. People will treat you that way only if you allow it.

There is a plus and minus to admission charges. Both arguments are sound and It appears that your example answered your own question. I go to many different types of shows and there is a BIG DIFFERENCE. I doubt many collectors would even pay $15 to get into a COIN show with the Internet around. Try to compare the CS Coin Show to a typical large stamp, train, comic, gun, antique, car, etc show is nuts! Folks pay for what they want and attendance at many coin shows seems to be down.
Unfortunately, from what I read/hear some coin shows are dying and rather than encourage anyone to wander in and perhaps become acquainted with coins, let's make 'em pay a few bucks. What about charging $5 or more for admission and give them a ticket good for the admission price to use on a purchase? Heck, the dealer can add it on to the price of a coin and who'll know.

Called and yes...there are still tables available. I will fax you an app and you will have to get it to me ASAP. Was filling out the app and hit a snag with the tax ID crap and gave him a call. Resolved that but forgot to fill out the names for badges. Got to the show and was told we had to pay $50 for the 2nd badge since no one was listed on the app! He didn't even acknowledge talking to me less than a week earlier and sent his Btch(I'm sure you all know who I am talking about) and held me to the rules!
I'm sorry...I don't do business like that and don't do business with people that do things that way! Add up how much they lost in bourse fees from me refusing to do their show for 20 years! I did have a decent show and pissed off 3 Canadian dealers who were lowballing a 10K set I bought! They were trying their best to low ball me on some of the coins I bought and I just grinned at them and told them I bought them for my collection(which was true at the time!).
Edit to add....forgot to point out we both had to pay dues to join the club which they could see to be able to buy a table!
As far as your 1804 example, no reason to act insane just because someone was rude to you right?
