Re-slabbing question.

I have a couple of slabs that I would love to get re-slabbed, but would really like to keep the original label inside the new slab. Is this something that PCGS will do on occasion, or are they just 100% against this type of service?

I'm guessing you would like to keep doily, rattler or OGH type inserts with new slabs? If so, I have never seen PCGS do that. If it is simply the certification number you would like to keep then I know they will re-holder with a new paper insert, but that does not appear to be what you want. An email to customer service might be your best recourse, but I wouldn't be too optimistic about the request.

Fixed that for you. I'm convinced they don't respond to emails.
Its actually an old light blue pedigree holder. They only made these labels for a short period of time if memory serves.

Why do you want to get it re-slabbed?
Sounds like it would be doable on reholder service.
So they will probably not do it.
Is it the pedigree you want?
If so, I would think that is doable. Ask them.
I'm not sure I do. I'm just asking if anyone knows what PCGS will do at this time and I may in the future.

They will maintain all of the information on the tag on a reholder, but will not reuse the original ticket under any circumstance that I am aware of.

I would think the best course is to keep it as it is....I see no value in re-slabbing. Cheers, RickO
It might be possible if they still had some of the holders in use at the time that that coin was slabbed, but I expect that they don't. It would be impossible to deter counterfeiting if PCGS itself started putting old inserts into new holders. Even if they would, they'd have to charge you and arm and a leg to document it.
Is the plastic cracked or something? Unless it's damaged, I'd be inclined to leave it as is.

REHOLDER: Re-encapsulation of a PCGS-graded coin. The coin will not be regraded.
it is just what it says, the coin is placed in a new holder and all the information on the tag is maintained. the grade, provenance, insert number and the fact that the coin is in a "Shield" holder will all be the same. whether or not PCGS will use the old insert is something I have never wondered about, so the phone call is a good idea.
Sad but true. A little over a year ago I wanted to submit my first coin ever (a super rare error), and I was going to join either PCGS or NGC to do it. I had a pivotal question to ask, and I emailed PCGS three times and got no reply. I then emailed the parent company (Collector's Universe) and did get a prompt reply, but not one that was authoritative on my specific issue. NGC, on the other hand, had my question covered right on the submission invoice, so I went with them.
Based on the blurry, whitish spots, the holder looks trashed, possibly beyond repolishing unless you expend a lot of effort.

The white spots look like they are on the coin, not the holder.
No doubt. Terrible customer service in that regard, at least compared to NGC. If you email NGC, you will get a replay the same day. PCGS took over a month the last time I emailed a question.
Unless slab damaged I c no reason submit - reholder or crack out for higher grade. I have no interest in keeping old labels or paying more for slabbing.
It cost me $57 get 2 coins reholdered once add shipx etc. This is a hit to fees expense, would buy a cart full of groceries. I think if u get out and take a table on the bourse and c how tough it is make money in this market u will c why I am tough on things.
The coin is clean, very clean actually. It's scuff marks on the holder.

Know nothing about these but find it kind of odd that its slabbed in the first place..
While I wouldn't do it (sometimes, scuff marks can be buffed out), it IS a hobby.
If YOU want it done, and YOU can afford it, then YOU have the choice.
And, you can ask them, but I am about 100% positive that, while the data will be retained, you will LOSE the actual label that you currently have. So, if it is a doily, or something you want, it goes bye-bye. Only YOU can know which one means the most to you (label or new holder)

Again the coin is fine. It is solid for the grade (7FB). I was just curious about the slab/label that's all.
