Is this what shill bidding looks like?

Robo-shilling? That's ~12 bids per item on 800+ items mostly with this seller. Doesnt seem like normal human behavior.

possibly. Hard to say. Some people are very loyal to whomever they trust on the internet. I rarely bid in eBay auctions, for example, but when I do it is always one of 2 people that I monitor and trust.
Does the seller involved start auctions at 1 cent? If so, that would explain why this person is trying to score.
Sure looks a tad shady.... I rarely bid on ebay anymore. In the early years I bought a lot there.... was far more trustworthy then...Now I tend to watch BIN's and the occasional auction - on auctions, I will snipe with a nuclear bid if I really want the item. Cheers, RickO
Hard to say? 10,000+ bids in a 30 day period with 1 seller?
C'mon, man!

I'm telling you, 100% of my bids over the last 2 years are with 2 sellers.
I also have a customer in Latvia who has almost all of his bids with me, because I'm one of the few people with reasonable shipping rates to Latvia.
I can see being loyal to a particular seller, but bidding almost exclusively on 826 different items 10,000 times in a month?
This is shill bidding or cyber stalking, take your pick

I don't do no reserve auctions, your just asking to lose money
If anyone believes this is not shilling, please contact me about some land for sale.
The seller this bidder is bidding so heavily on is GSC if that factors in any way.
this is probably one kind of shilling , the other kind involves hundreds of bid retractions and lots of items bid on
No proof at all, so I am not going to say shill. Some bidders are just weird. I've had my fair share. I've also had more than one potential customer contacting me with "proof" of me shilling my auctions, which I don't do.
Wow, over 300 bids per day. If its not a shill-bot then I wonder if
"Too much time on my hands" is playing in the background.
Why bother to ask?
Well, that explains everything. GSC is crooked and shady - there are so many obvious shill bidders on their page. I've reported a bunch already but eBay doesn't seem to care.
Early on ebay I tried to let "the market" decide what certified collectibles were worth and lost a lot of money. Now I just do buy it now with offers, I don't like to ride crazy roller coasters if I can help it.....
As for the shill activity they could stop it if they wanted to.
@ACop
I usually look on the bidders list before placing one. That example is beyond excessive and definitely smells fishy.
I actually wouldnt have a problem with a limited shill bid if it was meant to replace a reserve or starting bid. But this seems like some complex sheepy shappy shenanigans
Ebay is no longer seriously trying to prevent shill bidding.
It used to be that if you tried to bid from an ebay account that was linked to the same Paypal account as the seller...you would be prevented from doing so.
But now you simply get a message saying in effect, " Are you sure you want to do this? Because it looks like you are shilling. If you are sure you are not trying to schill , then go right ahead..."
I was thinking that this was such obvious shilling that it must be something else. It is absolutely correct that this could be stopped, the worst AI system on the planet could fix this in less than a second.
All you can do is put your best number on it and hope you win.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Report it.

I agree with Mark - put your best bid on it and go with the flow.
Reminds me of a story before I used to snipe cameos. I suspected a shill was bidding me up. Long story (and multiple bids later), I lost the auction by one bid increment. Not long after the auction closed, the seller emails me that the bidder didn't pay and would I buy it for my maximum bid. I swallowed hard and told him to pound sand.

The preponderance of evidence suggests so. Question is, what can you do with that information?

I believe many of them who open at say 99c have shills. This appears to be a good example of shilling regardless how he opens.
I Put my best number forward. If I consistently lose especially by one increment most likely shills.
I don’t waste my time contacting eBay I recognize it’s a useless mining site and move on.
If I get the message the winner flaked out I ignore it or say “not interested.” Why reward him for bidding me up?
Occasionally I get Sunday morning pickoffs as the west coast still asleep.
If you've got the time to check even deeper, you will notice that many of their "Sold" items mysteriously reappear for sale by them 2 or 3 weeks later. They are so blatant it isn't even funny...

It's an unfortunate cycle because it should be the best venue for sellers. There are good sellers there but they are all going to BINs which hurt the buyers. And then the cycle begins. Ultimately it is the fault of the buyers because GSC should have 0 customers with their tactics. And dont get me started on Apmex.
Like I said earlier, I've had buyers accuse me of shilling before, when I don't do that. I've also had buyers back out literally right after the auction ends. It's frustrating, but it happens. I'm always nervous sending second chance offers, because I am afraid they will react like you did.
Caring about shill bidding makes me laugh as I always choose my price, not the seller.
I don't care for myself because A. Like you I decide price I pay. B. I dont buy from GSC.
I do care because the hobby is dying at my generation and below. And this is the kind of thing killing it. Pros like you, advanced amatuers like me and many others, we may not fall for this. But many newbies and never-learners do and this hurts the hobby to some degree. Buyer beware sure, I agree. But when the hobby life-line is at stake, at least pointing it out so others know is a friendly service. Not everyone on these boards is a seasoned coin dealer who knows everything.
