Neat Old Find, but Off Topic

Came across this yesterday while breaking in my new hiking shoes walking through a bulldozed site near my neighborhood; haven’t found one of these in many years - coins shown for comparison:

    Really nice point.....The area I live in was heavy Indian territory and points have been found all over. I have one I found many years ago that I have always kept with me... I found it along the shore of the Hudson River.... Cheers, RickO

    My brother in law in Ohio works for the Dept of Transportation, and hunts areas near where they are doing construction projects, and has found quite a few artifacts over the years that he put in display frames. I went with him a few times before we moved to FL >15 years ago, but was usually lucky to find a couple small ones or some broken pieces. This is one of the best I've found, and was totally unexpected!

    Oh....that's a beauty! Indian artifacts have always been of great interest to me. Since I was a little kid I've found many treasures on the ranch and up in the hills. I always inspect the fields after any tractor work or after a heavy rain. Been lucky many times. It's amazing what's out there just under a few inches of dirt. May I ask what part of the country did you find it? I LIKE IT!

    I have found exactly two of them:

    One near an old stone wall that perimetered our backyard in Middlesex County when I was about 12-13 years old.

    The other, older, was in Luxembourg in 1993. I was lost on a trail and took a shortcut up a small hill, on the way up I saw a little stone spearpoint peaking out of the ground. I took it to the museum a couple of days later thinking they might want it - they basically said "cool find, enjoy it" and that it dated to about 1000-1100 AD.

    Just out of curiosity, what time period would that be from? 1800's? Much earlier?

    Research leads me to believe this is a Newnan point, as it matches the characteristics, and is found in the central to north FL region (http://www.projectilepoints.net/Points/Newnan.html).
    It's believed to be from the Middle Archaic period. The Middle Archaic Period lasted from approximately 8,000 to 5,000 years ago.
