Value Question Baker-166A

shorecollshorecoll Posts: 5,447 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have a Washington Funeral Urn Medal, Baker 166A, in NGC VG-8, straight graded, I bought at Heritage in 2007. I just noticed prices on these have spiked lately, but there are really no comps for this. How would you value it?

The last 2 low grade ones sold for $2500+ (VG Details) and $5000+ (VG-10), the funny thing is I listed it in a Stacks sale in 2009 or so and got no bids.

Any input is welcome.

Depends how wholesome surface condition wise yours as for low circ that's more critical than technical grading. $5K seems like a right place right time sale as mid $2K nearing $4K seems about the range I've seen these listed for direct sale.

It's good to see that there's some increased interest in these, as they're one of the few pieces of Washingtonia that is actually directly connected to Washington (even if he was deceased at the time). It's also interesting that there are major types (Skull & Crossbones and GW on base, as well as the standard Funeral Urn).
