Up to be won is a 1938 D MS 66 FB Mercury dime that is blast white and CAC. PCGS#1450979. Guide value of $100 or so. I will post a picture in the near future.

How do you win? Guess which coins in my next CAC submission CAC and at what level. Here are the rules:

  1. You must guess on every coin.
  2. Your guess for each coin must be 'No' or 'Green' or 'Gold'
  3. If you guess wrong, you get no points on that coin. If you guess No correctly, you get one point. If you guess Green correctly you get 1 point. If you guess Gold correctly you get 2.5 points.
  4. Guessing Green on a coin that gets a Gold gets you no points.
  5. You can enter only once.
  6. In the case of a tie, the forumite who entered first wins.
  7. Guesses must be numbered as the coins listed in this post.
  8. This is supposed to be fun. Please refrain from any 'CAC is bad' 'why send in coins of that value for a sticker' 'who cares?'etc comments. If you can't just have fun, please let others.
  9. I mail these out to CAC via Registered mail Monday. You can enter until I get the email saying the package is at CAC. I will advise when this happens and the entries are closed at that point.
  10. If you think I entered a cert number in error ( I probably did) PM me and I will see if I can correct it.

Here are the coins. There are 39:

  1. 135054-021=green
  2. 128794-001=gold
  3. 1095634=green
  4. 1083014=green

  37. 9399142=gold
  38. 3386120=green
  39. 203992-015=gold

I just ran the number through the CAC website, so I won't make it official until I actually get the invoice back to double check the numbers. Though I sold my Merc collection about a month ago, I am still working on a Gold CAC short set of rattlers and fatty holders and made some with this submission. Two white label NGC's stickered. Two Doilies stickered. I submitted three gold coins. The 1894 $10 MS 64 got a green sticker and the 1906 D $10 in AU58 and the 1893 $10 in AU58 both received gold stickers. Once I have the invoice, I will contact the winner and make arrangements to send the prize. Thanks to those who participated.

I may have missed it, but would you like the guesses via PM or publicly within the thread? Sounds like a cool game!

Guesses need to be made via post so everyone can verify the results. Thanks for catching that! Let me know if there are any more questions. Here is the prize.

As stated, you can be un-motivated and make wild-a$$ guesses, or you can increase your odds and investigate. I think it will be a few days before I have time to make my guesses.

    Cool prize and interesting challenge!

With the correct sleuthing, it would be possible to see images of almost every one of these coins. I just did three simple deductive searches and found an image of #38 with no more info than the cert# and an educated guess as it was the only coin of that grade to come up in the search. If a photo cannot be found, what does the cert# tell you?

I don't want to say too much, because it is a thinking game too, but I think that by using all the resources about me, CAC, NGC, PCGS and selling venues available at your finger tips, you can significantly increase the information on which you make your guesses. I tried to make the prize worth spending a little time trying to win. But the winner may have just guessed based on no info. It will be interesting to ask the winner what he/she did to support their entry.

Package goes out tomorrow ( I had to get it all taped up yesterday ) and it will go registered. It takes about 7 days to get to NY so I imagine I will get a notification about Tuesday of next week so that it has arrived so participants have until them to do their best Carl Kolchak or Nancy Drew.....maybe the game won't work and folks won't be interested but I wanted to give it a try anyway. We will have a winner one way or another.

Not that I think none won't bean, but 1 pt. for bean, 1 pt. for correct no. On average 40% bean, <<<<1% get gold, the best odds are saying no to all of them. I hope you get an 80% success rate and ruin my odds.

    Best, SH

Where's the fun in trying if you're just gonna hack the contest? I considered doing the same since it's basically a guaranteed win but that's not very fun.

    Enjoy your free coin.

It was the difference of one point, but @scooter25 is the winner with 17 points. He was able to correctly pick two of the coins that went gold. PM me your mailing info and I will send out the prize. Congratulations!

Coin 4 on the second invoice was not included in the contest. After packing the coins to ship, I thought I had double listed one coin so I deleted it from the list. Turns out I had not. It was not counted towards anything in the game. I am hoping that at least a couple of the Walkers come back with red PVC stickers. They looked pretty good, but I have missed pvc on Walkers sent to CAC in the past.

Excellent results; probably the gold stickers increased the value quite a bit, especially on the $10 gold coins, etc..

I think the spread on two gold coins that got gold stickers is pretty slim. Maybe $50 increase? I was happy though because I have been studying my past submissions to learn more about what unmessed with gold is supposed to look like and these three coins were my first effort after I had done my homework.

That may be technically true, but with the cac gold sticker saying that the AU58 coins are actually Uncs., probably MS62 or so, they are worth stronger money than the technical numbers. Serious collectors want fully Unc. coins that are original and meet the strict standards.

It also raises questions as to why the graders thought the coins were not Unc. or of significantly lower grades when they went through? Though grading may be an art not a science, there are objective standards that the top graders agree on.
