Lamination error? 1970 quarter

Absolutely not! It was struck-through a rim burr. It does add value; I would say somewhere around $5.

Edit: I guess this could be considered a (de)lamination error of sorts, but it isn't as descriptive as the above error attribution.

What we old timer error experts called a "rolled-fold error," or a "rim burr error," and to the best of my knowledge nobody has come up with a better term.

When the cut blank went through the upsetting mill, the mill caught the edge of the blank and partially sheared off a long, pointy "rim burr" that remained attached to the (now) planchet and got pushed in at an angle. It remained there through the striking and got struck into the coin, leaving the long tapered indent. The other void above the base of the indent is where the metal got sheared off of the blank.

After the coin was struck the burr fell out, leaving the long, pointy indent.
