    Great examples Bob! Looks like lots of red on the raw one.

    I'm very fond of this design and also circulated So-Called Dollars. I've actually been thinking of starting a low-ball / circulated So-Called Dollar collection.

    I'm looking! As for focus, well, I'm buying what appeals to me and trying not to go overboard like I did with the HK-398. Somehow or other I ended up with six of those.

    With the two posted here, I had already bid on the raw one when BAM! The EF showed up. And I thought, well, hey, I like that one too!

    I have to regain control and focus.

    Nice SCD's Bob.... I have not collected SCD's... but attractive pieces with significant history are interesting. I have often wondered about the conditions endured while creating the canal...Accounts I have read told some really gruesome stories. Cheers, RickO

    The rim ding on the top one, would be kinda bothersome...if the second one did not grade problem-free...not saying that it be a details coin. Cool looking design!

    As I understand it, if you were a skilled machine operator you did very well and your health and well-being were looked after. You were difficult to replace. Ordinary ditch-diggers were regarded as expendable and suffered the consequences of disease and industrial injuries. It did get pretty nasty.

For the story of both the California Exposition in San Diego and the Panama Pacific Exposition in San Francisco head over to my thread linked below which contains information and photos on the two competing and simultaneously held expositions there in California commemorating the completion of the Panama Canal in 1915.
