LOL! I kindda don't think so! All your techies which make up quite a bit of your economy would be fleeing from the horrid taxes your state charges that would have to go up even more!!!

I would never leave California with the possible exception of Baja Mexico or Hawaii.

Better yet, Cali could break off and become an island, new country?

LMAO ... be careful what you wish for ..... the rest of the good ole USA would be a world of hurt if the great state of California became its own country and took with it the 6th largest economy in the world.

Well I managed to miss a quake for a change. I just spoke to my wife on the phone and she said her office in Hermosa Beach was a swaying.

It would be interesting to compare the bottom line disposable income between a teacher in Ca. vrs. the national average. That would especially be interesting in cities like San Francisco where housing costs are multiples of the national average. Wanna see a well paid teacher...at least they used to be. I have a sister in law that moved to Alaska 20 years ago because the incentives were so high!

I have lived in CA (North and South) and Washington State... been through many quakes.. the worst being the 6.8 in Seattle...THAT one got my attention...so much depends on depth of the quake and proximity to the epicenter. Small earthquakes are just a nuisance. Tornadoes and huge hurricanes are far more devastating. I never worried about a blizzard... been through many...Now, all that being said, if a major quake of 7.8-8.2 hits, and it is in a heavily populated area such as Los Angeles, well, that will dwarf the other mentioned storms. No doubt it is coming...Cheers, RickO

Well duh, the cost of living in the Golden State is high of course because people WANT to live here. Simple supply and demand. So a teacher In Cali may not be getting as good as a salary as it seems. BUT, I know many teachers, and My daughter is getting her degree in teaching. All the teachers I know love to "play" for three months. Funny thing is, they live here and choose to play here because there are so many different things to do here.

Also, the teachers I know have only one job, that is teaching and focusing in on the kids. They do not have to take on a second or third job just to get by. They also do not work on their three months off as that is only for playing. They are not rich, they are treated fairly here in this thoughtful state.

Until you live in California you really don’t know how great it is. I had a total east coast bias until I moved here kicking and screaming. Now I kick myself for not moving here quicker. I feel like I’m on vacation most every day.

We live in Toronto and my daughter left for California Thursday morning and the last thing I said to her was "I hope the Big One doesn't hit!"
First thing Friday morning I read on Yahoo news was "5.3 quake hits LA coast".
Oh well, it may give her more of an appreciation for home (lol).

Most people are attached to the place they are born and raised. I have had family here in Montana for over 150 years and would not want to live anywhere else. I say this as it is snowing but cold has never been an issue for me. Our only worry is the worlds biggest volcano is just south and if it goes off, we are all goners.

I agree that people are attached to the place they are born and raised. For me, that would be San Diego.

But there is also a certain disdain for California from so many in other parts of the country. This hatred is so often expressed here on this forum. Get over it. My gay nephew got married last year. I absolutely love Mexican food, by far my favorite food. I can see the border, there is NO WAVE of immigrants coming here. Anyway, spring is upon us and I hope they get here soon to harvest the fresh produce that many of you eat.

They do. Also, elk, bear, moose, sheep, goats, gophers, coyotes, wolves etc. (well some of those are just for the fun, not actual hunting)

The reason there is such disdain for Ca. is ya'll try to push your Liberal Sh*t on the rest of us who don't want it!

There's no doubt there are many beautiful places in Ca.

As for the immigration thing...why doesn't Ca. push for temporary work visas and help enforce the borders instead of fighting the rest of the country over illegal immigration? It blew my mind when I read Ca. just passed the million mark on driver's licenses issued to illegal immigrants! That's just crazy!

I don't think you realize how big a problem it would become if the borders were opened and no immigrants were refused. It's time for your state to become a part of this country instead of trying to change it into what you all want as a country and the majority of others don't. I would love to hear your thoughts if Ca, did become it's own country and opened it's borders to all. Bet you wouldn't be saying what you are now! I suspect your state will go bankrupt if it continues on it's current path.

Are you a believer in the New World Order by any chance????

I live in Northern Illinois about 100 miles west of Chicago. Yes the winters can be a bit much, but to have all 4 seasons is quite nice. To see the leaves turn and to see the snow fall, then to see the birds come out in the spring and watch the grass turn green, is an absolute delight.
I've been to California and to tell you the truth, it's heaven. I've also been to Houston and Florida for the FUN show. It was fantastic to visit where it was 75 in the dead of winter. But to go out west where it's brown most of the time like Vegas is not appealing to me. Forrest fires, mud slides, droughts, smog, earth quakes, waiting for the big one and 30 million people in 1 state.
Not sure I would like that, but I'm a few days away from being 50yrs old and I need a change. I'm willing to give up the winters here and live where it's warm most of the time. Thought about Houston, but to be in a region where it's 90+ degrees every day for 100+ days in a row is not what I'm looking for either.
So where to live and have coin shows to go to. I guess I'll stay put and go to the National in Chicago every 2 yrs.

    Later, Paul.

I think this is pretty true.

I love Montana and have been many times. LOVE it. Gods Country. I could live and retire there. My wife not so much. He literally was a parka on when it hits below 60 degrees She is a fashion, beach and sun girl. I love my wife so I suffer in the sun with her ; )
