How do you get a ms-66+ as opposed to a ms-66?

Do you pay for an extra service to make it a 66+ ? What makes a coin a plus rather than just ms .

Do you have to request PCGS to check it for being a plus or do they automatically do it
My guess is luck gets you the +.

You can get a + on a raw submission, or you can send in a coin through the reconsideration review and ask for a +.
Later, Paul.
It's not as good as a MS67 but better then a MS66 so you get a + at no extra fee just a better coin.
Hoard the keys.
Think of it like another digit in the grade that only 30% of the coins qualify for. From the PCGS website:
"Plus Grades" exhibit exceptional eye appeal for the grade and constitute the top 30% of the coins in the grade.
Only XF-45 through MS/PR-68 are eligible for Plus grades. Numerically, this includes 45, 50, 53, 55, 58, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, & 68."
Hope this helps...Mike
Try sending in a 67 for a re-grade.
A very nice luster could earn you that " + "
Since they started this program, I have gotten under 10% plus grades. I must be unlucky.
Thanks guys
It in effect increased the grading scale from 70 to 82. Next up 100 . . .

Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!
It's just a matter of a grader's opinion on a particular day.
In some circles you get a minus, just for asking.

Once a coin reaches a certain plateau, it’s really got no other place to go, except to market.

I only have one MS66+ and I bought it that way

I must bite my tongue here lest I be banned!
The plus is a step on the road to either a 100 point system or decimal grading.... Cheers, RickO
It must be a 67 that has something on the observe or reverse that is seen with the naked eye
Best place to buy !

Coins are graded on a scale of 0 to 70.0
Coins in the top 30 % of the grade, generally get a plus.
For Example:
Coin grades MS65 (on the holder) but in the PCGS grading files it is actually MS65.X. You do no tever see that last number. think of it in this example as something like MS65.5. If PCGS Feels it is an MS65.7 or greater, it will get an MS65+ designation.
I'm a bigger fan of the roulette wheel approach by the graders!
Here is a 66+ from my recent submission. I think it is very clean, has nice mint set toning for the issue, and wouldn't look out of place in a 67 holder.

For another MS66+ Washington Quarter, it looks like @mach1ne has one posted in the BST.
Also, someone mentioned luster as a factor for bumping a coin up to a plus grade. I have seen PCGS increasingly use a + as a bump for some high end (color wise) toners. A plus color bump usually requires nicer toning than on the quarter I posted IMHO.
Perhaps the + is similar to the Gold sticker that the coin has potential for a straight grade.
The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

Plus Grades are really just a crap shoot. Really nice coins get CAC stickers.
How come there are no "-" designations for coins that may not have full luster for the grade or other distracting features?
You willing to pay for that?
