    A.R.C. American Red Cross?

But then you have to ask...why would the American Red Cross have a need to issue tokens in Franc's?

That's all I got....And advice worth everything you paid for it. ;)

    Possible WWI issue?

Could be anything, really. But I think the American Red Cross in France circa WWI is a great guess.

Nothing on the reverse? No guess as to what it is... the previous thoughts sound good, but not sure why the Red Cross would be issuing tokens worth a Franc....They collect money, not issue it...Cheers, RickO

It's likely a token as it has a denomination and not a medal.

What does the back look like? When I first looked at the pic the letters seemed in relief but now I could also see them as incused.

What is it made of? Looks like it could have been plated (zinc for example, or tin) steel.

Could be something as mundane as a fruit picker's token or the like, or something more historical like a war-related token (prisoner of war camp, relief camp, emergency issue, etc.).

    I think it's a World War I - era American Red Cross (A.R.C.) 1-franc canteen token.

    Tonights Project:

This was a gift, that also has historical significance.
I wonder if someone used this token for a meal.
It appears to me to be zinc coated steel, very thin with a sharp edge.

Funny, at least to me, how the simple things in life bring much joy...

You might want to start a collection of such things. Post exchange and canteen tokens are generally cheap fun with a whole lot of historical significance. I have a military tokens thread you can search on the forum. Check it out if you wish, and you can post your ARC token there if you'd like to add to it.
