Ignorance is Bliss.

Little had I known as to just how prestigious of a place this is I would've saved me the embarrassment. To the ones who took it for what it is seeing my enthusiasm which few lack anymore. Maybe the reason for my mishap is to bring that back to you. Idk. Only time will tell. Thanks.

There is a lot of knowledge about coins here if you are willing and able to absorb it. There is no lack of enthusiasm here for coins. People are not here to steer you in the wrong direction. Relax and read for a while and you will get comfortable.

    Relax

On the internet nobody knows you're a dog.

    BUT

On the internet everybody knows your dog.

Relax... we all started out the same way..... No one was born with coin knowledge... we had to learn. Plus, it is a vast field, so really, a great opportunity to focus on specifics... or, become a generalist.... your choice. Cheers, RickO

Try to absorb as much as you can from this place. There is excellent advice from those of us who have been around for awhile.

    Stick with it.

I've already forgotten whatever incident you are referring to (assuming I was ever aware of it in the first place) so as Chuck Yeager once said, "press on!"

There may be a few exceptions, but for the most part no one is keeping a scorecard. You have to work pretty hard to earn a reputation here (good or bad) so I doubt you have been here long enough to be permanently branded.

My guess is he is referring to the thread "Platinum chips" in the precious metals forum. As other members pointed out they were lead not platinum.

Thx for the heads up. I just checked it out. Had a good laugh.

Coin collecting is interesting -- but awfully arcane -- stuff. It takes time and repetition to get it down - kind of like a ball park hot dog. It's difficult to jump into a message board like this. But keep asking questions. Members will be glad to help you. ;)

Why are you embarrassed? I have a lot to learn and not all embarrassed at all by not knowing.....Hope to see you around!

Hey, I'm just happy there's a new collector.
Don't give up---this is a wonderful hobby and if you have an interest in history it ties together quite nicely.
I have been interested in coins for 50 years now, and I still have energy, enthusiasm, and passion for it.
I can't say the same about some of my other interests of the last half century.
Man.......did I just say "half century"?
Where the hell did it go?????
A blink of a geologic eye.....

Dont give up on coins or metals. Coins take time and patience to learn. Metals, a good acid test kit goes a long ways.

    1. When enough people give you information as to why your subject coin isn't what you so desperately WANT it to be, back off and quit arguing. Ask questions and accept the answers. If people say they don't see "it", they mean it.
    2. Read and learn coin lingo. Using "Fantastic" as a noun fails.
    3. Don't whine, it's unseemly.

Yes, ignorance is bliss but knowledge is greater bliss, at least in numismatics.
