(Great picture accompanying the article, by the way.... they really took the time to READ the article & see they were talking about putting the women on the REVERSE before just slapping a woman's photo on an image of the quarter's OBVERSE to cover the Washington portrait.........)

I guess we'll never see the eagle land on the reverse of the quarter again.

These rotating series appear to be the new normal.

I myself am holding out hope for a "Invasive Species" series, which will highlight one destroying the environment/ecosystem/economy in each of the 50 states, be they fish/eels/mollusks, trees/weeds, insects, etc......... should make for a fun & educational series!! Are the reverses of the nickel or dime available? ;)

Out of perspective as her eyes are too far apart. Can't they find a better image, like perhaps when she was 18?

This just creates more confusion and fragmentation of what is already a hobby challenged. Is there ever any push back against these promoted new series, have any of them ever been canceled by opposed hobby groups? I remember speaking with some mint employees at one of the ANA shows and they were stone faced and indifferent to concerns.

Have the “vast majority” of faces on us coins throughout history truly been male? Or is this more fake news?

The Quarter is the new semi-postal stamp.

I vote fake news, assuming you count the many allegorical faces of Liberty over the past 225 years. If you only count actual historical people then yes, mostly male.

More ever-changing quarters, another run of small golden dollars, and the penny is still being minted. When will the dime get a facelift? Will we ever get a large dollar like the Morgan for circulation again? How about introducing a new $5.00 coin as prices aren't what they used to be!

Great. More politically correct nonsense. I wonder if Chelsea Manning will be on one of these quarters. ;)

all these new quarters deemed the original state quarter series worthless. the 1999 silver proof set was selling for 400 at one point, now about 70. the mint just won't let collections appreciate, no wonder they lost so many customers

  • MsMorrisineMsMorrisine Posts: 35,844 ✭✭✭✭✭

I hope this does not spread to the notes.

A complete overhaul of the coinage would be good and leave room for change

The State Quarters program was my gateway drug into coins as a hobby. Since then I have refined my addiction/passion towards Peace Dollars and CBH's, both of which I wasn't even aware of as coins when I started but quickly learned to appreciate and enjoy them. Having said that, I still enjoy the State Quarters and Nat Parks series as a fun and cheap alternatives and will likely continue on with any follow on series. Hopefully the current Nat Parks and or follow on series will continue to lure unsuspecting future coin-addicts/hobbyists just as the State Quarters got me.

  • BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,556 ✭✭✭✭✭

Just ignorant people making politically correct statements for the coinage.
The SHQs were ok at the start then went downhill.
The parks started out boring and have gotten worse.

If they go down this change (no pun intended), then I won't bother collecting from circulation nor worry about buying mint/proof sets any longer.

Now, if they picked 1 person, male or female, based on actual accomplishments for this country, not just for a small group or state, then I would be ok with it. I think the SBAs are ugly, but I am ok with what she did to get there but they screwed that one up by making it almost a quarter (appearance and size).

Mint employees have no choice in the matter since these programs are dictated by congress.

How about a quarter program celebrating American "Pop Culture", featuring coins with portraits of those who inspire today's youth, including the Kardashians/Jenners (including Kaitlyn fka Bruce); Paris & Nikki Hilton (or are they so 20 minutes ago); Gigi & Bella Hadid; Kanye; Blac Chyna; Beyonce; Jay Z; Courtney Stodden; Jason Deurallo; Kevin Hart; The Rock; WWE Stars; Bella Thorne; the current Disney kid stars; the current Nickelodean kids stars; the stars of Storage Wars, American Pickers, Gold Rush and Pawn Stars; young Hollywood Actors and Actresses (nobody over 29 because they are too old; Harvey Weinstein (maybe not); Woody Allen (maybe not); LeBron James; Colin Kapernick, a hologram of Prince; a hologram of Michael Jackson, the current group of Victoria Secret Angels, etc.

Make and publicize those American "pop Culture" coins and the "Yutes Of Merica" will jump into the hobby of kings with wild abandon. The Mint can also produce special quarters in this series (maybe 1 out of every 10,000 made) which have internal components that give out a special signal that can be tracked. These special coins can somehow be used as part of a Geo tracking like promotion to get kids off the couch and moving (like Pokeman Go).

Create additional quarters (better yet half dollars or even larger dollars with portraits of Hillary on them and others with portraits of Trump on the other. Sell them at a premium to persons who are anti Hillary and anti Trump to use as an sort of clay pigeon in skeet shooting competitions (imagine how many anti gun folks would gladly pick up a rifle and shot at a Trump clay pigeon).

Creative marketing by the mint to connect with the newest thing in young America today could generate hefty profits for the mint.

Wish our lawmakers would spend some of their time concentrating on a few of the countries problems rather than worrying what shows up on a side of a quarter. We need to take a breather from the "special coins"..Thanks rln

Great idea. The Monica Lewinski quarter could be in the shape of a cigar. The Mary-Jo Kopechne quarter could be in the shape of a convertible, The Marilyn Monroe quarter.........

When the State quarters came out, I was all in. Collected all of them in holders clad and silver. Was fun to do but it got old after a decade. Financially, it was a big bust. I vowed I wouldn't fall for the hype any more.
Then Washington DC and the territories - I gave up at this point.
Have had zero interest in the America the Beautiful series - I don't even look at them in change. (Which, BTW I don't think the average person on the street gives a dang about what is on the quarter. If it spends, they are good)
Now a new series is under consideration? Count me out as a collector.

I started collecting in 2001 with state quarters.

I have completely ignored national parks however. I would ignore something else as well.

The term political correctness (adjectivally: politically correct; commonly abbreviated to PC or P.C.) is used to describe language, policies, or measures that are intended to avoid offense or disadvantage to members of particular groups in society.[1][2][3][4][5] Since the late 1980s, the term has come to refer to avoiding language or behavior that can be seen as excluding, marginalizing, or insulting groups of people considered disadvantaged or discriminated against, especially groups defined by sex or race. In public discourse and the media, it is generally used as a pejorative, implying that these policies are excessive.[6][3][7][8][9][10][11]
