...or can anyone describe markers to differentiate between a Micro O and a regular O mintmark in the 1905 dime?

To be honest with you, I thought the micro O looked like a normal size O, until I compared it to my other 1905-O in my album. You can see the difference in size if you compare the two coins side by side.

Here is one I dug a few years back. Graded st AU55 local coin store
A low grade example, ANACS G4 Details (Scratched):
from the PCGS CoinFacts page for 1905-O:

I recall reading that the mintmark punch used for New Orleans quarters was mistakenly used on some of the 1905 dies to result in dimes bearing the so-called micro O mintmark.
"Two things are infinite: human stupidity and the universe; and I'm not sure about the universe."
-Albert Einstein-
Mistakes are natural. But repeated mistakes without reflection are something else. That may be the “stupidity” he was referring to. In research, he admitted uncertainty openly. “If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?” This shows humility. Even a Nobel laureate accepted doubt. That humility makes the quote less cynical and more observational.
Smoe answers are worth waiting 14 years to get.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
I believe this was also the case in 1899 with the micro 'O' Morgan dollars.
Wow- didn't catch the date on the OP!
Another resurrection.... Micro O dimes seem to be a focus today.... Cheers, RickO
