Copper 4 the Weekend

DCWDCW Posts: 7,624 ✭✭✭✭✭

Happy weekend everyone. Here is a civil war token that was in my nephew's box of curiosities. He wanted to show me his coins over the Christmas break, and this one provided some time for discussion and reflection on our nation's history. Nice to do that with any 15 year old these days.

Coin collectors, with their frequent obsessions with grades and rarities, easily forget important lessons about our nation's history that are reflected in humble pieces like this. Circulated nineteenth-century pieces were what my paternal grandmother used to lure me into the hobby when I was less than 10 years old.

@DNADave.... That is the first bi-metallic store token I have seen... or is it bi-metallic? No... on examination it looks base metal and copper plated.... still interesting.... Cheers, RickO

    It is bimetallic.
I'm having a hard time finding a prior sale of it. I've found the same in a round version in a larger denomination, that went for a couple of hundred, but I need to do more looking on this one.
I do have a couple of West Virginia bimetallic store tokens too, they're not terribly rare.
