The place was very busy Friday with lots of traffic. Someone said the "old folks" got turned loose. We had our best Friday ever! All the dealers who came to the table said it was much better than last week at Lakeland so far. The dealers I could see were selling coins to non-dealers. Got some scoop on one of the TPGS's from two recently retired employees. The company is shipping over 300 packages (coins) a day. I'm not going to say the number of coins they are slabbing a day slabbing as that # is unbelievable.
IMO, the TPGS have become "sweatshops" now. Not as enjoyable as the "old days." One QC guy ruined his wrists just pulling coins out of the boxes to check the labels! 
Although, I enjoy 
reading all the whining about turnaround times, please think of the sacrifices folks are making to get your coins back in a timely manner.

The guys doing the "real" work are not getting paid what you imagine (FL is low-cost labor state). They do get matching 401 + good bennies. Perks?...LOL. You are referring to a half hour for lunch and "Pizza Friday" right?

Did not get away from the table. So far only bought 2 ICG Intercept Shield Sample slabs (both from when they were in CO). Apparently, the "Shield" works as neither Lincoln has spotted. The 1945 cent has to be an MS-67 or MS-68 Red.
Someone is bringing in some counterfeits for me tomorrow.
Funny story, I asked someone how they were doing and got a 10-15 minute rundown on their health problems and hospital stays during the past last month. Thankfully, a paying customer came by.

Actually, it is a good show. I walked down all the aisles to see who was here.
There is ALWAYS something to find at ANY coin show if you are a "generalist." Sample slabs from any company are neat. I saw several counterfeit ancients of good quality, one of the really good counterfeit 14-D's that fooled everyone in the 1980's, two "contemporary" counterfeit 8 Reals. and a deceptive 1877 cent with the "7" added.
My mother in law lives down there. Is it a monthly or annual show? Where is it held?

Thanks; I remember when they were in Parsippany NJ, going to that show in the late 90s where NGC coins were more represented than PCGS.

RE: Pity for TPG "sweatshops." None here. It's a business. If there's a problem with repetitive stress and nerve injury, the TPG is responsible for altering processes to prevent employee injury. There are ample workplace laws and regulations to address problems.
Are the graders at NGC and PCGS still getting paid six figures? How about Anacs and ICG?
PCGS has been in business for 32 years. That's about 8,320 work days. PCGS has graded 38,510,663 coins. So one would expect an average of 4,628 coins per day. I would guess they are grading a lot more now than they did in the early years though.
How many graders are there?

Sarasota is a big arts center for central Florida. I went to their Renaissance fair there about 20 years ago about this time of year. You could check with their tourism office; Fort Myers to the south has more interesting historical sites.

That's a hard question to answer because it depends on what you like to do. Every place I've lived had collector's trade shows.
DC was my favorite - fairly close to everything including skiing, NY, beaches, rural country, Mountains, culture. I'm glad I no longer live there.
NJ sucked! But close to NY, beaches, rural country. Best thing, you could drive a few miles and be in another unique small town. I'm really glad I don't live there!
Chattanooga was great. Folks were terrific. Small town atmosphere. About 13 hours away from everywhere I wished to visit again (except NJ). I would live there again in a heartbeat.
Sarasota is great too. Culture, beaches. It is a warm weather tourist town with all that goes with it. Golf, tennis, shopping.
The Sarasota show was a little slower today. I saw a few dealers buying bullion rather than selling it but again, I didn't get away from the table at all. We are having a good show. Nevertheless, several tables will be empty tomorrow. I think the collectors "in-the-know" rarely attend the last day of coin shows anymore.
