EBay/PayPal seller protection policy on lost package

Anyone knows what is the EBay/PayPal seller protection policy on lost package? I know PayPal used to pay for the lost package if you provide tracking but I am not sure if this is still true or not. Also if you buy priority shipping label on eBay do you get $50 free insurance coverage as you do with USPS.com? I shipped a priority package on January the last update was on January 17 so I believe it is lost since USPS did not provide me any update (I emailed USPS but no update from them).

You get $100 insurance if you use eBay labels. I don't think the "seller protection" is of any use for a lost package as eBay/PayPal consider that to be a post office problem. The seller protection is more about fraudulent purchases than lost purchases. But eBay labels do include up to $100 in free insurance on priority labels.

I don't think ebay or paypal has ever protected the seller in that situation, only the buyer. If shipped priority, you should have $50 insurance at least.
It may be worth making a phone call to the last location scanned and seeing if they can locate it.
$100? That's better than USPS.com (only $50). How do I file a claim? (with ebay?). thanks.

If package is lost by USPS, you will have to file a claim with USPS for reimbursement. Paypal seller protection does not cover a situation like that. USPS provides free insurance coverage up to $50 for priority mail packages. If you are a top rated seller on ebay, that amount is raised to $100.

Assume USPS will reject your initial claim and you'll have to appeal.
You will have to provide evidence of value for the contents - just because somebody paid $x doesn't mean USPS will accept that as the value.

Been a long time back but a printed page form the PCGS price guide and copy of the listing from eBay got me whole on a loss years ago. After going through all that hassel with USPS went to the self insurance route now. BTW it was a PCGS certified coin.

Limit is Actual sale value or $100, whichever is less. You should copy the ebay item number and a screen shot of the sale with the claim.
Be aware that if you sell 10 widgets, in separate listings, to 1 person, 10 invoice NOT combined on ebay, and put them all in 1 box, USPS only pays on 1 of them, the widget ID that was used to create the label.
This is not true. You have to qualify for Commercial Plus Pricing to get the $100. (Which is something like shipping 300 packages per month) It's very easy to see what insurance you received. Type in the tracking number on USPS and then select "product information". Your insurance amount will show up there.

The first thing you should do is file a "locate mail" on usps.com Every time I do that, the package reappears on the system within 24 hours. I don't know how/why they go off the grid, but it has happened A LOT in the last 6 months.

I also noticed the $100 coverage. You could always move up the food chain at usps; the claims go through a mid-west hub of usps insurance claims. If denied there is another appeals office out of DC. You can also contact your congressional usps liason who will have someone to contact at usps on your issue. There is absolutely no excuse for lost and stolen packages that should be pursued for justice.
don't bother with e mails, waste of time. make a phone call to last place it was scanned, worked for me
most u.s. post offices get so many e mails, they don't even bother to read them all

I've had about half a dozen similar tracking slips in the last 3 months. They all turned up in 24-48 hours after filing a locate mail. Fortunately, my customers were reasonably understanding.

Just file an online problem form with to and from information. It could still show up.
In the last month, I mailed 2 different packages, mailed through different post offices, not show up scanned for over 10 days, then suddenly start showing scanning from the original post office. It was like they were lost in a shipping container.
Another package, mailed to me, dropped off the radar for 10 days, then suddenly showed movement again, and arrived safely yesterday.
There have been some strange mail cases lately.... We only had one, but several have been posted here. Cheers, RickO

The quality of your USPS shipping relies on UPS workers. Nobody gives a flying .. about SurePost and tons get lost under belts or bad postal employees don't scan them before being redirected again. I video record the packaging of every single item and keep OCD records for this very reason.
Having worked at USPS, UPS, and a seasonal FedEx gig, I'm terribly worried about anything that gets shipped here. I had a box of pennies broken into and sifted for best dates lmao and marked as improper packaging. All the best coins were gone they conveniently left the scraps. Sender didn't insure.
As far as PP and ebay are concerned, seller owns the shipment until proof of delivery is obtained. They will protect the buyer in this case but not the seller. For ebay sales this is why you hear "insurance protects the seller, not the buyer." I remember when sellers used to try to get buyers to pay extra for insurance. I always replied that I didn't need it, I have buyer protection.
