The 2017 $50 Gold Proof Buffalo Is no longer available at the mint and will almost assuredly have the lowest mintage of any 1 oz Proof Gold Buffalo.
I think the coin is going to get hot very quickly!
An AMAZING buying opportunity. You can buy the 1 oz proof buffalo with the lowest mintage in the entire series at mint issue price. Imma gonna be eating ramen noodles for the next month sitting next to an impressive stack of gold!

Just saw that the 2017 $50 gold buffalo is on back order. How is this possible in 2018?
Collector gold buffalo and collector American Eagle sales are not limited to the calendar year. While they stop striking them before Jan. 1 they continue to sell what is on the shelf well into the next year. Inventory at the end of the year remains available until sold out. There are currently 2016 proof gold eagles still available from the mint.
Normally, "back order" status indicates they have sold them all but the latest sales are still returnable. Once the window closes for returns status will become "sold out."

One NGC70 on eBay for 1899. NGC pf70s are $1940 and PCGSpr69 FS are $1648 !!!! at Gov mint - cheapest I could find in a quick search. These might be better options than a (possibly returned) mint product that you may or may not even get.
According to the Mints sales report they sold 240 last week.
FROM THE MINTS WEBSITE:
Back Order
This item is available to be ordered now, but it is not currently in stock. Additional inventory is being made. Please add the item to your cart to see when additional inventory is expected to be available.
So they do strike them after 2017 which is total BS.
The real question then is how many coins does the mint have on the shelf for sale. Would the mint go through the trouble of reopening sales of this coin if there was less than 1,000 coins in stock? IMO, they have more than 1,000 coins on the shelf.

They are not making more coins. I have talked to the mint several times about why the item did not go to sold out.
What did they say?
And why is this on the Mints site right now,
Back Order

As wondercoin posted earlier, he believes this is standard language for backorders. Therefore, no additional inventory is being MADE in 2018, but is in stock from last year.
Why was there a rise in sales of 240 last week? The previous weeks had no gains and a few weeks had losses.
The Mint website says more are being made.
A distribution rep in Memphis says they aren't.
Seems like the Mint has their spurs tangled up, buts that's right on par for them.

This is the most important post in the whole thread. Why speculate when you could pay the same price or less to get a 69? In the holder? Not returned!
Lesson learned. Don’t make assumptions when coins are “currently unavailable” as many here on the boards are quick to call them sold out.
The Mint does what the Mint wants to do. All the times.
Now, go buy that unattractive spousal-like platinum so it doesn’t come in at a low mintage.
I got an email from the Mint telling me the 2017 Proof Buffalo is available! Well I put 100 in my Cart and I can buy them ! What a wonderful group of people.
They give you rope. Do whatever you need to do with it.
With the way the Mint is these days, you never know what's real ..... as far as numbers. The Coins briefly disappear and then weeks later there they are again.
It might be possible for an error Coin to soon show up. With the release of the 2018 Proof Buffaloes couldn't there be an error known as 2018 with obverse of 2017 ? This would be identifiable by the 2018 COA of course.
So when the 2018's launch - order up. And keep your fingers crossed.

Not “making” them in 2018 I suspect. Just selling what they made in 2017.

I think that is just form language regarding back orders.
Just my 2 cents.
Wondercoin.
They have it back on back order with Feb 5th as the estimated fill date $1750

Goldman86... I assume you spoke with them “several times” because you were not satisfied with the first answer you received? What did they tell you?
Wondercoin.
I almost picked one up... but man, that's a lot of money to speculate with.
I think you all should get paid by the mint your information easier to find.
Best place to buy !

There were some at the Washington HQ sales area the other day. Might be sold by now.
Looks like the 2017 buffalo proof gold coin is unavailable on the mint website. I wonder what games the mint is playing now.
I'm going to need another one for a second grandson born in 2017 ( those marriages are costing me now )

New sales numbers in the morning....
Hmmmm, they seem to be available on the Mint's website now.
They are not making more coins. I have talked to the mint several times about why the item did not go to sold out.
What did they tell you?
I knew it would happen.
For sale again. What’s the story?? Put 15 in my cart with no problems!!
Are they playing with supply&demand or a lot of returns?

I guess the low number means that CLCT revenues for Q3 won’t be so rosey either.

Looks like 90 left in stock
Successful Trades: Swampboy,
Don't worry, they'll make more...it's just 2018.
"currently unavailable' simply means the mint plans to be offering more. "sold out" means they don't.
No Way Out: Stimulus and Money Printing Are the Only Path Left
Only 68 left. Go get one if you want one ... or a dozen, even.
They're down to 60. Looks like a sell out? Maybe one day.
It might be time to change the title to the this thread to: all you want till there ain’t none

Currently unavailable, but it's still early 2018, plenty of time to make some more.
