Wow... Now that is cool.... I have been on the U.S.S. Constitution when I was in the Navy... The ship was in Boston for a while.... Great history..... and to walk the deck of that ship, understanding it's history and being a member of the modern Navy was incredible. Cheers, RickO
Is it for sale? They could sell it with the profit used to support the operation and maintenance of the ship.

@JBK.... Actually, I was referring to MY active duty ship... was in Boston for special equipment additions... I did phrase that incorrectly.... Boston is the permanent home port for the U.S.S. Constitution. Cheers, RickO

I read it another way...
I don't hear much about modern US Navy ships being stationed or even docked in Boston for any length of time these days. There are some impressive visits from Tall Ships or various international ships from time to time. I do know there is a WWII German submarine that is permanently "docked" on the ocean floor off of Cape Cod (intentionally sunk after the occupants were escorted off).
There are some nice decommissioned US Navy ships and subs in Fall River, though.
@JBK .... Yep.... back when I was in the Navy (59-63) Boston Naval Shipyard was a big deal with lots of sailors...both on base and ships....All changed now.... My ship was homeported in Newport, R.I.... that is gone now as well. Cheers, RickO
Thx for the link. I actually checked out the store earlier today. They have a "made from" medal and can even document the year and circumstances of the metal's original installation. They also have lots of wooden items made from wood recovered during various restorations.
Collecting items made from bits and pieces of the USS Constitution would be a whole hobby in itself. Over the years there has been a wide variety of things made from metal or wood taken from the ship.

That certainly is different than what you normally see and is cool!

I don't remember the USS Constitution being a pirate ship.

It still is, unless someone hijacked it. But with all those cannons I doubt anyone would stand a chance of success.

I’ll post a picture later of a block of oak cut from the orlop (cable tier) during a refit around twenty years ago.
Cool stuff!
